Using up breakfast cereal

Make some cornflake/chocolate type things - and tip the bits into that; it'll fill in the gaps and get swallowed up into the chocolate without being noticed. Or even make some flapjacks and mix it in with the oats.0

I add them to digestives and crush them up for cheesecake basesBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

add them to yogurt to make your own Mull*r corner type thing:)Do what you love :happyhear0

They'd also be good in treacle tart - the recipe I've always used involves smashing up the cereal before adding the "toffee" - & fruity bits would add a rather nice tang, I think!Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Hi folks,
Has anyone used the dusty dregs from Branflakes etc for baking? I could feed it to the ducks, but wondered if it's possible to use it to replace some of the flour in bread making?
Cheers

I don't know if it would work very well in baking bread, would be fine in stuff like flapjacks and cheesecake bases. I usually just put them in with any old cereal or porridge.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0

Well, I used to use the dusty bits of plain cereals when baking dog treats! I don't see why you couldn't use them in a recipe with a bit of 'stick' to it, e.g. flapjacks, homemade cereal bars, etc. where it won't dry them out too much0

Hi Calluna,
If it's a savoury cereal I use it as a topping for savoury dishes like pasta bake. A sweet one I would use as a sweet crunchy topping.
This thread should give you lots of ideas:

I'll add your thread to that one later.

Why not add it to a crumble mix or if making meatballs or meatloaf or burgers usually you would add breadcrumbs so you could use it for that instead.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480
