Anyone here know the areas of Selly Oak, Edgbaston and Harborne near to QE Hospital Birmingham? Due to DH work we need to find somewhere to live.
No kids so schools not an issue. Looking online Selly Oak seems a lot cheaper - is there a particular reason?
    Any help gratefully received.

Hi, Cat, I can see the QE out of my window! Renting is generally expensive round here due to the QE, Medical School and the University. Some bits of Selly Oak and Edgbaston are OK; however, if you've ever lived in a studenty area then you know the disadvantages of living close to houses in multiple occupation. (Students move out for the summer: builders move in:() Both Harborne and Bournville can be hugely expensive: Bournville has a Village Trust so are quite protective of their properties.Cotteridge and Kings Heath may be worth a look. There are quite a lot of new build "executive flats" in my postcode where swinging a cat is not advised. I'd have a look on Right Move in the first instance and put in the post code of where he's going to be working so you can get the lie of the land. PM me if you need any help.

PS Traffic and trains can be really horrid at peak times.

DH and I have been away for the weekend - and came back to a lovely clean house. Thank you for your encouragement, flyladies!

It has not rained here, so I set to and have mown the lawn. Now black rain clouds are gathering (or maybe it's just getting dark - after all, it is nearly 9 pm) and I am quite smug at having finished the job already. We have friends coming round for a barbecue tomorrow evening, so I want the garden to look tidy even if we do end up cooking and eating indoors.

We have had a lovely afternoon at Coughton Court (National Trust property near Redditch) which was sort-of on our way home from visiting family and friends. We counted the elephants in all the rooms - it's supposed to be a children's activity, and they get stickers for counting, but DH is just a big kid! I have confused the guides by embroidering another little elephant on the "Have a go" tapestry canvas in the bedroom.

bossymoo, that is such a lovely idea!

Now I must go and pull up the 3-foot high barley and wheat growing under the bird table, where my feathered friends have been dropping their food. Oh no, too late - here comes the rain! I shall just have to pass off that flowerbed as ornamental grasses...

Thanks. I had a look at RightMove and the differences in prices are what prompted me to ask. We will be visiting the area for 5 days, and need to find somewhere. DH deploys until November and we need to move him in as soon as he gets back. Guess who gets to organise everything:D We definitely need more than cat room - We have an Ozzie:rotfl:That's one of the main reasons we can't rent.

Eek! Landlord just text me to ask if he can come and do an inspection tomorrow at 6pm. I think he wants to check the kitten hasn't caused any damage. He's been really good except he's slightly scratched the bottom of the dining room door but nothing a sand and paint won't solve. I'm going to have a massive to do list tomorrow.

    Good evening :D

I have been awol for the last part of the week. friday, the torch came to town, so we watched that & then headed off to cornwall for a weekend! (Must be mad going 300 miles for a weekend away!!). the journey down was horrendous (M25/M4/M5 very wet). Turned on the news when we got there to find a red weather warning  It rained a lot overnight, but was ok by morning (poor Devon/Dorset got the worst - I hope if there are any flyladies there they are ok). Had a good day, and weather was ok. We might have to back next year for a proper visit :)
Needless to say - not much flying done here. DD1 did 1 load of washing while we were away :T, and we have another load in the WM now (including some muddy stuff from a very squelchy walk on dartmoor on the way home :))

I am hoping to get back to the lists tomorrow. see you on the next thread :)
