I bought this dvd player and it plays everything I've thrown at it.

If you join as new customer I think you get £15 discount or 20% not sure which.

Also free returns. There is a £3.99 delivery charge but if the right code you can get free delivery as well.

    Does it play DIVX though?

    It doesn't!

  • Price not quite right - its for collection from the London store, a quid dearer for postage, but still cheap. Also checkout adds extras that are a bit fiddly to remove

how these have been become popular. in 2002 I got a bargain one for £89.99, no one knew what Divx was.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives

Please stay away from Pixmania. As others have said they have atrocious customer service. I suppose it's OK if nothing goes wrong but if you have to contact about anything the trouble begines. The first thing you discover is that finding out how to contact them is the most difficult part, they hide their contact details very effectively.
I had to return a Hard Disk to them that was damaged by not being packed properly. First it took them 6 weeks to say they hadn't received it even though I had traced it through Parcel Post. Then it took a further 8 weeks before I got a partial refund. I was out of pocket through no fault of my own and hope I can discourage anyone from dealing with them.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure.
  • Hey guys. Some of these players have been noted as playing from a usb device but it seems they only allow music and image transfers. Are there any that will play video files from a usb device such as an external hard drive or is burning files to dvd the best method?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

(Sorry if I've strayed from the topic somewhat!)

You can get a divx dvd player with hdmi and dvi ports for 49.99 excluding postage. The good thing about it is that it comes with a hdmi and dvi cable.

    SOME ADVICE:
Just some things I think are important to know, and some answers to questions asked by some above.....
    • 'Region' fixing only applies to DVD's. If you are buying a player primarily to play DivX files, the lack of a region hack may not be an issue to you.
    • An important factor with any equipment like this is good support from the manufacturer. The DivX codecs (the software used to compress the video into the divx format) are updated from time to time and you need to know that your can update your machine's firmware to be able to play them. If you are considering buying a new model that may not have firmware updates available yet, check the support / download section of the manufacturers website for earlier models - it will give you an idea of how good they are with firmware updates.
    • Some people questioned the quality of DivX movies. It is true that the quality does vary a little, but it is the person who encodes the video who makes choices that weigh file size with quality of picture. So you can't exactly download someone else's encoded movie and complain about the quality. Encode your own movies, or find someone who does them better. When the picture is very dark (for example, a movie scene set at night) you can notice the compression more because less shades of black are used; but on standard TV equipment you will be hard pressed to notice a difference between DVD and DivX in most instances.

DivX is great. You can fit an average of 6 movies per disk, and usually fit an entire season of a TV show averaging 45minutes per episode accross 2 disks. Just make sure you are not infringing copyright, of course. :D

    Hope this helps!

    Dar.
