I can see nothing wrong with him selling the car as a non-runner for spares. That's why we need to see the Ebay auction.0

A car can be dangerous.
And it can be fixed.
The scrapyard may have bought it as dangerous and then sold it to someone who can fix it (or who wants the parts).
There are 4 categories of write-off, of which C and D mean the car can be legally repaired and put back on the road (will need to undergo some certification and a new MOT), B means the car has to be scrapped but parts can be sold, and A means everything has to be scrapped.
A cat C could be a bent chassis, that would be dangerous to drive in that condition, but which could be re-aligned, and/or parts replaced to make it roadworthy.
There are TV programs where people pick up scrappers and repair them.0 -

I have kept copies on my pc just in case of ownership issues.
I can only assume he had no interested buyers anf has scrapped car today.
I'm not posting any links or usernames as he may well have been informing people on viewing of the cars condition.
I dont want any come back from an angry irish scrapman:eek:

Last two I scrapped, (cartakeback) very professional, but on the form there was a box to tick if you insist the car be scrapped, rather than resold. Personally, I didn't mind, so I didn't tick the box. They took the V5, I kept the section 9. They were scrapped, later on the same day I got the certificate of destruction by email, and the cars vanished off the dvla database.0

Was it a little Pug needing a replacement back axle? If it was and he had a smashed one, its an easy couple of hours work to swap them over.0

Mechanic mate of mine recently bought an 04 plate Mondeo worth about 2k on a good day for scrap value as the owner had been told the grinding noise he was getting was death rattle from the gearbox and would be 2k to replace it all.
Mate collected the car on a transporter with the aim of breaking for spares but discovered on getting it home it simply needed a new wheel bearing.
After respraying the bumper he made a tidy profit on it and I wouldn't class him as a con man. He bought it in good faith with the aim of ripping its guts out but it turned out to be an easy fix.

Why would it be dangerous? It costs £800 to change a clutch on a MK3 Ford Mondeo diesel which for a lot of the early ones isn't that much less than they're worth. The part is about £250 so if a scrappy can replace it themselves, it is worth doing and selling.

There are a lot of cars that go to the scrapyard because they're not economically viable to repair if you're paying £50/hr labour and/or using new parts such as a new engine.0 -

Complete set of brakes, brake pipes and flex-hoses comes in under £200 if using second hand calipers and not paying £50/hr labour.
Rear axle is free if they have another and it probably has good brakes on it.
Back wheel hanging off can be fixed by replacing what has broken. If rally cars can be back on the road within an hour after having a wheel completely ripped off a car, I'm sure yours which drove to the MOT station and which you'd been driving around on for months could be repaired.
Sorry but all you've done is list mechanical faults that you couldn't afford to repair, not that couldn't be repaired.0
