Just ordered Spanish unlocked mifi data simcard from simcard Spain, £27 incl pp for 1gb and stays active for 10 months. Didn't want the hassle of buying and registering when I arrive and wanted to use the Mifi with my Wifi ipad as soon as I get there. You just advise your DOB and passport number when you complete the payment and they register for you, you can also top up with extra data if needed.

I don’t know for sure but most of the shops are for departures not arrivals so the answer is almost certainly no.

You say coach and resort, are you on a package holiday?

If so ask at reception or the travel rep where you can buy a Tuenti SIM card.

Better still tell us where you are staying and someone might be able to help.

Do they have WiFi were you are staying?

Not sure about wi.fi but could be a problem when reading personal emails etc so would prefer a data SiM

Flying into ailcante and about 40 mins transfer.

Not heard of Tuenti before...may have a google search.

If anyone has unused SIMS from a previous visit I would be interested in purchasing

    Thanks for help

There are two Carrefour supermarkets in Alicante. One a HyperMarket which is likely to have all of the major SIM available(though likely not Tuenti) Look here and here
Everyone will know where the Carrefour are located.

So plan on getting the Carrefour Internet M!vil Prepago SIM for 10€. That will give you four days of usage.of 100MB and then slowdown per day. Top up another 5€ for each four day period.

If you don't use much data, look for a Yoigo shop. They charge 0.35€ plus IVA per day for 35MB then to slow down to 64kbps for the day. You can also buy data in 15MB chunks for 0.15€ plus IVA. You can also accumulate the data that you don't use, up to 1GB.

The other thing that I would suggest is to enter all of the possible profiles in your machine, so that you are not scrambling around for the once you find a SIM.

Not sure if its correct but a SIM card seller advised me that you need an unlocked smart phone to register the Spanish data sim before you can use it in a Mifi, would this be correct or is he pulling my leg ?

Provided the site is encrypted it will be OK.

It should have https at the start of the web address rather than http to show it is a secure link.

So if you go north that will be around the Benidorm area and if you go south it will be Torevieja.

If you type the following into google

    "Servicios de Comunicaci!n y Telecomunicaciones" Benidorm site:infoguialevante.com

you will get a list of phone shops in Benidorm.

Replace Benidorm with the name of the nearest town to where you are staying.

It looks like it is only marketed to Spaniards but it looks very good value at 6 euros for 1 GB of data download so well worth trying to get hold of one.

If you have a laptop and a smart phone try putting the SIM in the smart phone then tether the laptop to the phone. That way you can use the phone to make VoIP calls.

I’ve been playing around with VoIP this weekend and have to say it works really well. I’ve used the following:
    • Samsung Galaxy Ace 2
    • CSipSimple App
    • Localphone SIP provider
    • SIPgate SIP provider

If I try and make a call when the CSipSimple App is running a popup box appears asking me if I want to use localphone, SIPgate or the phone. Voice quality is very acceptable and I think you would struggle to hear a difference.

Yes that is correct. If you buy a phone from Orange or Vodafone it will probable be locked so it won't work on someone elses network.

You can test your phone by inserting someone else SIM from a different network.

Orange will unlock a PAYG after 3 months for £20.

If you google your phones make and model and how to unlock it you will find all sorts of ways of doing it.

Thanks. Just bought the phone Huawei 7220 which is locked to Tesco mobile, tried all the usual unlocking routes even paying in advance but all have refunded saying they're unable to supply code at this time, that's the main reason I've gone for the more expensive pre registered Spanish data sim.
