I'm all for them verifying these details but wish they had a better way of doing this than have to send original documents through the post. Maybe et it stamped and verified via post office or something.
You just send a photocopy of the licence and paper counterpart back0 -
Wow, serioulsy OT here! I have been following this thread for a few days now... Quite interesting the whole conversation.
Which leads me full circle to ask again: Does a customer have to send a copy of his/her driver's license to the insurer?0 -
If they ask and you dont give them a copy they cancel your insurance, Simple.
Then you have to declare having your insurance cancelled.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I don't see why this is such a problem - I've had to make copies of my driving licence/passport in the past for things. One that immediately springs to mind is when I was renting as a student.
The only real trouble I see with it is that it's just another thing to take up valuable time when there are other options which insurance companies could use. When my car was written off in December, my insurance co put me on a conference call with the DVLA and confirmed that I had a full, clean licence just like that.0 -
Yeah the DVLA conference call was just to verify you still hold a licence not the fact you have been saying you have one when you have not.
And been supplying false details to get cheap insurance for the past xx years.
Lots of people out their saying they have held a licence for xx years when they have not. Of course a lot will have throw away cars so any accident and they wont be claiming anyway.
Why pay £££££ when you say im 17 and just passed my test when i can say yes i am a 47 year old vicar, and been driving for 30 years with no claims.
Partially why they do a credit search. Are you a real person?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Absolutely, and as I said, I don't have any problem with sending copies for things and don't see why anyone would make a big deal out of it. However, all I'm trying to say is that I don't really get why, if it's so easy for them to verify licence details with the DVLA in one circumstance, they can't do similarly in others, such as this.
I suspect the answer comes down to staffing etc, but it would be good. I know plenty of people who don't own a photocopier or scanner.0 -
by time you wrote and told us this you could have copied and sent them to the insurance company0
