I fail to see how because Google are selling these at cost price.

I just read that these are being sold at below cost price! Google are selling as a loss leader to build up the Play store.

If you think about how many billions Apple made from iTunes it kinda makes sense. Google need to get a foot in the door and this seems the way to do it.

I'm no Apple hater and own some of their products, but iTunes is looking tired these days and it's about time things get a shake up. Keeps things interesting for us consumers :)

been looking at places to find the cheapest but they're all the same price really. ebuyer, hmv, carphonewarehouse, pcworld, dixons and currys as the big retailers

so it only goes by cashback i guess.
there's also £15 credit from google to spend on google play once registered.
ebuyer's got their asus nexus early.
soon to be "available" but will any retailer be short on stock as it looks like it will be popular.

i have an urge to purchase it, but it would just be a new toy to play with not necessary and it's not like my current laptop is dead.

apparently though, adobe won't be supported on android 4.1.
    also no hdmi port :(

I do so wish these things were 3G compatible - I wouldn't want to keep hitting up hotspots to check emails etc - which is one of the things I would want from it!

you can apparently install Flash and it works aOK if not through the play store through the .apk from adobe.
no HDMI port is a shame but if you have anything that can use DLNA (smart TV, WD TV ect) you could always use that to display stuff of the big screen.

as for 3G I doubt they could ever squeeze 3G in at this price point, it would probably add £100 to the price, you can get around that buy using a MiFi device or a phones hotspot though.

I agree that it doesn't need it (most people will tether if they need mobile), but I can't see that 3G capability would add anything close to £100 to the price when handsets with 3G capability can be sold for a profit for less than £50. I'd guess the cost of adding 3G capability to be less than £10.

Probably the estimate was based on Apple pricing :)

Lets face it why does the 8GB of extra flash memory cost £40 on these?

I will wifi tether it to my android smart phone for data on the go.

i ordered the 16gb last week - the pre-ordering fiasco has become a total s**t-storm, with delays to orders being fulfilled and tablets being dispatched with no respect for the date of order. Lots of angry people out there
