HELP!Emergency taxed even though p45 given

Also, who did you give the P45 too? If it was your manager there's a likelihood it could be lost in moving to payroll or it just hasn't been passed on. You need to talk to someone in payroll who'll be able to tell you whether a) they have your p45 and b) if they don't, what you'll need to provide them and most importantly c) what tax code they have you on.Data protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind0

I thought I had-it is numbered 12. I got no benefits. My tax code on this payslip is 0TM1 I got admin to open it.
The P45 was handed to payroll, had this confirmed.

Yep - that's emergency tax. 20% of everything with no allowances.
But even so, you should have received £950 on that code.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Im guessing that NI must have also come out. She says only 221 was taken in tax, 44 was taken for my crb which I didnt know about so I guess thats where the mix up is, im on the phone to HMRC at the moment as she told me to phone them about it.0

mildred - not allowing for NI which would be correct as its not related to any coding.
If they weren't going to take your P45 and use it to get a code, then they should have given you a P46 to complete and provided you answered the questions (tick one box A-D) you would have ended up with an 810L code.
So did they give you a P46? If not then ask them why not since they clearly haven't used your P45 either.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
They did not give me a p46 and admin insists that my p45 was given to payroll.0

You don't need HMRC. You need to complete a P46.
Your figures are all over the place.
In a normal week you'll pay £9 NI (ish).
So that doesn't account for the extra £200-250 deducted either.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Are you sure it's a P45? Numbered 12 sounds more like your last monthly payslip of the year.
This is a P45.

Chrisbur wants the details on Sections 4 to 8 of that first page you see. The other pages, if it was a P45, should have been handed to your employer.
OTM1 is a tax code normally given out in the absence of either a P45 or P46.0 -
Yes its a p45!
HMRC have sorted tax code over the phone 810L from next month. Apparently they have heard nothing from new employer
4 is 31/03/12 5 is blank 6 is 747l 7 is 12 month number pay 3230 8 is 13210 -
It won't be a normal week though as she's been paid 6 weeks pay in a month so her NI will be higher due to not having 6 weeks lower limit deducted and only 4.
Having had a play with Sage payroll, if you put someone on now with a 3rd April P45, it tells you to contact HMRC and update their tax code when you get a new code. I can't complete the process without actually creating an employee which I don't want to do but I suspect at that point it throws up an emergency code.
Sounds like technically they've done little wrong, except not to think it through and realise that a last year P45 would do this and give you a P46 instead. Trouble is if they've already submitted the P45 details via the direct link its going to be hard for them to redo the payroll until they get the new code issued as you can't submit new employees to HMRC more than once.
Your best bet is to see if you can get an advance against next months on the basis that you will have a big adjustment in tax next month.Adventure before Dementia!0
