ive been told no on the advance front so its basically tough
Im quite annoyed that they didnt give HMRC details on p45. This could have been avoided.0 -
To be fair Kerry - I've had people join and give me P45 details which need HMRC to update, and its only when the employee phones them and goes through it on the phone, that it gets updated. Otherwise they seem to just sit in a pile!Adventure before Dementia!0

Yes its a p45!
HMRC have sorted tax code over the phone 810L from next month. Apparently they have heard nothing from new employer
4 is 31/03/12 5 is blank 6 is 747l 7 is 12 month number pay 3230 8 is 1321
Ok with that date your new employer should have put you on the emergency tax code which is 810L M1 which would have seen you taxed correctly on a month 1 basis giving you your tax free allowances for that month.
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/employees/start-leave/new-employee-p45.htm
Once your tax code was then updated to the normal cumulative tax code of 810L then you would have got a rebate as you had unused allowances.
So your employer hasn't used the P45 correctly or it didn't get to payroll in time for the first pay run.
I'm assuming you haven't been receiving JSA?0 -
No I did not claim anything as it was my choice to move areas and I got the job but had to wait for a crb check to come back hence the delay.
HMRC have now issued 810L for next month but its basically tough until then.
Payroll had my p45 for 6 weeks and HMRC say they have no knowledge of me even working for them so no they havent done jack diddly squat with the p45.
Its hard enough on minimum wage without this!0 -

I would say you have a good case for asking the employer again for an advance as it has been their error that has caused this problem. Perhaps you could go back again and ask why the P45 details weren't used according to HMRC guidelines and that this has now caused you severe financial hardship over the next month.0 -

But even so, you should have received £950 on that code.
Emergency tax does give an allowance before tax is deducted. The current emergency tax code is 810L, the OP has been taxed on OT, either the employer's pay office have not recieved the P45 and did not bother to ask for a P46 or they are belivers in the myth that old P45s cannot be used and should be thrown away and then did not bother to get a P46 completed.0 -
I can't help with the tax thing, but am thinking about your daughter, is it possible to get a whole load of fun things from the £1 shop? Or buy things cheaply off ebay (my go-to place for presents!!)? When I was that age I think it was quantity rather than quality, and if I'd had a pile of presents even if they were £1 shop ones would have made my face light up. Are there other things you can do to make her day seem extra special like fill a room with balloons which is cheap but looks mega?0

Work are just passing the buck around, they will not help. Im pretty upset TBH.
I normally buy on ebay but because I was waiting for payday today and her birthday is tomorrow, I wont have time Luckily she does have some presents here from her grandparents and I cant even bake her a cake as when we moved in here there was no oven and im waiting for it to be delivered(my nana bought it for me)
My DDs are as follows: £500 rent, £97 council tax 60 gas 55 electric 12 tv licence 28 water 15.37 house insurance 6 pet insurance which is £773 and there is only £700 there! So none spare at allIm going to have to cancel a couple I think I cant not get her anything

With these details and you starting on 14 May your employer should have used the tax code 747L updated it to L and applied this on a cumulative basis.
The following is from http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/helpsheets/e12.pdf
and refers to what to do if P45 recieved for last year.
"Employee starts working for you during the period
6 April 2012 to 24 May 2012
Use the tax code on the P45 and add 63 to any tax code
ending in L, for example 747L becomes 810L
but do not carryorward any week 1/month 1 markings from the P45 and enter
in Box L of the P11."
If this had been acted upon correctly then you would have paid no tax on this wage.
Without the full details I cannot be sure but I suspect that you may have been overcharged on NI as well. On your first payday if that payment spans two pay period which yours appears to have done then NI should be worked out as if two payments had been made not as if it is all one payment. Do you have an NI deducted figure to check?
Overall it seems to me that your underpayment was caused by the employer's pay office (by not implementing the P45 correctly and possibly deducting wrong NI,) or HR (by not passing on the P45) so might be worth asking again about a loan.0 -

Your gas and electric DDs are huge? Are you paying arrears?0
