If it doesn't say 'Service Pack 1' under Windows Vista Home Basic then it's still on the original release plus the updates you've installed thus far.
To speed up the process, download and install Service Packs 1 and 2 in order (You need the (x86) files). How do I add a signature?0 -

Just doing service pack 1 now. Thanks for the link.
Great minds must think alike coz I would have gone to Crucial as have used them in the past. lol0 -
Although not necessarily the cheapest, I prefer Crucial as their after-sales support is second to none. I recently had an issue with some failed RAM that I purchased from them in 2008. Returned it under their lifetime guarantee and received no-quibble replacement within 5 working days. How do I add a signature?0

A company using vista home basic?
Supplying password protected laptops to people without giving them the password?
Going to all this trouble, instead of just asking the company what the password is?
Is it just me, or does something seem odd.?[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

cit_k all I can say is yes the laptop came from my cousins company, yes it has Vista home basic on it, why? I do not know. They upgraded some laptops as well as laid some people off so passwords not available. As I have gain access to the laptop now there doesnt seem anything work related on them (not that I looked that hard) so they may have taken some stuff off but not bothered about the passwords. Who knows.
Figmant I cant get service pack 1 to install, it keeps saying insufficient something (kids turned it off before I got all the message) Will try again today0 -
It possibly said insufficient system resources, but could also have said insufficient privileges.
The full message is important to determine the course of action required. How do I add a signature?0 -
If it continues to annoy you, you can install Vista with Service Pack 2 directly and retrieve the necessary Drivers from the DELL support section.
You'll need that RAM.0 -
