I wouldn't recommend a Packard Bell to anyone, not even my worst enemy. They look nice, modern and have high specs when compared to equally priced Sonys, IBMs, Toshibas etc. BUT they are flimsy, unreliable, battery will be a gonner after 3 months. You are better off with a 2nd hand branded laptop from ebay or anywhere else, than getting this one. I did this mistake 4 years ago and regretted the minute I listened to the ignorant PCWorld salesman.
    You've been warned.

I have had packard bells 1.7 celerons to their 2.7ghz celerons and also their p4 3ghz pcs. All with no problems. If you are technically minded pc world will send you out the parts for replacement. If however you are not then you need to either return the item to the store or call their help line who will arrange for a tch to come out and repair. as long as you phone b4 10am same day is gauranteed.

honestly, if all you're looking for in a sub-£400 laptop is to be able to surf the web and do a bit of word processing, i'd seriously recommend a used or refurbished ibm thinkpad t4x series. they might not be core2duo but the build quality means it'll last you a good few years and there are lots still under warranty and the ibm warranty is supposedly excellent.

agreed, thinkpads are imortal, i have no probs swaping out laptop motherboards etc and have even worked for an hp refurber and frankly wouldnt touch one with ever.

on a scale of one to 10 with ibms being 10

    it goes ibm

    9 toshiba

    5 dell

    2 hp

1 something stolen, set on fire and clockwork powered

Just how much better is the Intel 6400 over the Turion TL50. With the same add-ons it works out at £36 more expensive, but you also get 1 year collect and return with the Intel. Is it worth it ?

No it is not on site is better as the problem gets fixed there and then. I am also a certified c+g computer engineer as well. Would you rathar pay £36 and have to phone a helpline up to help you or would you rather pay £36 quid less and let the company come out and repair it on site ? Plus if the item is under 28 days old then you can return it to the nearest store and they will replace it.
