i went for the PACKARD BELL MV45-008 RECONDITIONED INTEL CORE 2 DUO T5200 PROCESSOR 1.6GHz LAPTOP

as for the price, you will not find a cheaper Core 2 DUO laptop.

Maybe - but it is a Packard Bell... and it makes you wonder why there are so many reconditioned ones. I'll stick with Dell. I wandered once to another supplier and missed all the Dell backup/Forums/support... not the Indian call centre but the online stuff.

Purchased the Dell 6400 expected delivery date 28.03.07
Spoke to c/s could have upgraded to vista premium for £23.50 but would have to upgraded the memory aswell so opted out out !
Did i make the right choice? it is just for the kids and general internet searching.

I think you could have bought the 6400 with Vista for the same price.... but I am considering buying one for my Auntie with XP as I think it may be better with less memory and it is proven. So I wouldn't worry... some people are choosing XP in preference to Vista at the moment.

On the order description for the 6400 there is:
"Inspiron Resource DVD - Vista (Diagnostics & Drivers)"

Is this the same as the operating system (Vista Home Basic) DVD? or does it not come with the disc for re-installation of the whole operating system?
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

The 6400 Hard Drive will come partitioned, the smaller 20gb partition contains Windows and from that you can create a system recovery disc.

Or after you've recieved the laptop give Dell support a ring and ask for the original DVD, they should send it out for no cost.

I did a total re-install after running Linspire and Ubuntu Linux operating systems on my Dell lappy, did away with the partition and set it up to my needs. I wouldn't expect most users would do this.

Just how much better is the Intel 6400 over the Turion TL50. With the same add-ons it works out at £36 more expensive, but you also get 1 year collect and return with the Intel. Is it worth it ?
