Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti english, my kids are english. I just hate the commentators and the pundits.

I'd probably hate the scottish ones too if we ever got that far and they done the same :rotfl:

On BBC Red button there's an option to turn of the commentary :T
Even simpler, there is the off button, especially for the BBC commentary.

I'm glad it's not just me who gets wound up by the commentators. I'm half and half English/Scottish (grew up in Scotland so tend to regard myself as Scottish but don't dislike England at all), but listening to commentary on an England match always makes me want to disown my English side and support the other team; the only way I can manage to support England at all is by not watching the coverage!

Of course the Scottish commentators and pundits are biased as well; everyone has some bias towards the team they support, but at least they don't have the sheer arrogance about them, the certainty that their side is the best in the world and will win everything, "of course". I think (most) Scots are realistic enough to accept that frankly, if we even qualify for a tournament someday, that'd be an achievement lol. England is of course better than that, but you'd think not winning anything since 1966 (which is always rammed down everyone's throats) would be a subtle hint that perhaps they aren't quite so good as the pundits think they are.

Does anybody think that other countries' commentators aren't biased towards their teams?

I'd be more upset if the commentators weren't biased.

In terms of the quality of the commentary, footy isn't exactly high society, is it?

In all the years I have been watching England(I'm 42) the only time I can remember there being a REAL feeling that they would win a tournament was EURO96 where England hosted the competition and got to the semis. All this outpouring of fake outrage about biased commentary and false hopes is a lie. There is not enough of it as far as I am concerned as it adds to the excitement. English commentators need to be more biased like their welsh and scottish cousins who have no fear of having to be impartial as they know their English counterparts will always get slated no matter how they approach a match.

Spain looked really good, but I thought the "best team ever" plaudits were a bit OTT in view of the 10-man Italy.

Sometimes BBC/ITV south of the border and the equivalents in Scotland cover exactly the same match but with entirely different commentary teams. That's especially the case when the Scottish national team or a Scottish league team makes progress in an international competition.

But they only seem to retain the commentary with the English commentators, the Scottish one is lost. TV coverage now forms an important part of our history & that aspect of our history now is basically English to the exclusion of the Scots.

Glad it's over. Adrian Chiles was severely annoying with his "our team this, our team that" routine ... "our team" being England.

I'm sick of the Olympics too, all these dumb adverts telling us how company x/y/z is "proud to support Team GB". Stupid advertising strategy when so many Scots, especially young people, now want independence from the rest of the UK. So many of the Scottish athletes grudge being in a British team too (good on the Scottish footballers making a stand on the issue !)
  • I watched the barbarians against new Zealand in 1973 just recently. The whole crowd stood and sang God Save the Queen.

Shame that since some people had only promoted [STRIKE]diversity[/STRIKE] division and hatred.

Mark Lawrenson is just awful. I'm sure I head him say he hoped an Italian player was badly injured last night. Surely it's time for the Beeb to get rid of him. I don't think he said anything more than 2 words long last night.
He's like having uncle Knobhead sat in the corner of the room commenting inbetween a snooze.
