That's fine, I'm not interested in football, rugby is my game, and I'm delighted when Wales lose. To anyone.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Ahh but you see the difference there between the Scottish and English teams? We're crap and we know we're crap. England are crap and think they are something special. Hence the disappointment each time :rotfl:
to be fair they consisently get to the last couple of rounds in these global championships, hardly crap. Crap at taking penalties, no doubt, but not crap overall or they wouldnt be in the top ten in the world.
I lived in Scotland for a long time, so used to the Scottish hatred of anything football and England, but could not help noticing the anti English threads on facebook last night, moaning about the commentary - which were not even remotely aligned to the actual commentary on the TV.0 -

I really don't see why being Welsh (or Scottish) for that matter means you don't want England to win!?
I'm Welsh, and I wanted them to win, cringed at Cole's attempt at that penalty. Thought for a moment it was 'fate' with all the near misses the Italians had, but no - Eye-ties deserved to win.
I would watch any Home Country's team - I'd prefer it to be Wales, but England no problem; though I fail to see why R.o.I. get so much attention.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
OP, are you seriously telling me that when Scotland play that the commentary is completely unbiased? Absolute nonsense, but you made me laugh!
When my local Championship team play away matches I always try to listen to the game via internet radio. Often it's the local station to that team commentating. The commentary is always completely biased towards the team they're supporting, which isn't the away team.
Please also be aware that many of us English hate most of the commentators as well. Lawro is a complete plank, and that's being nice.
No, the real reason most people from Scotland and Wales like to see England out of major tournaments is pure jealousy, nothing less. Personally I think we have an awful England team right now, but we're still good enough to qualify.

On BBC Red button there's an option to turn off the commentary :T0

Let's face it football has become a Mickey mouse game played by a lot of rubbish actors over hyped by the pundits and commentators, WHY because it's there livelyhood. Billions is poured into the game and the gifted few milk it for what it's worth. The commentary, well yes of course it's biased it's our country out there playing for us flying our flag. I have stopped watching the English team play since the debacle called the world cup in Africa, IMO,we are just not good enough , club football takes top priority and that is why our team does not perform well. PLAY FOR THE FLAG.
And the Jocks , well I think you lot would vote for Hitler rather than support us, what a shame you have to be like that, it's only a game after all.
And me! Well I have played football all my life but now the interest has just gone the actiing and cheating spoils it all."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -

And I lived in England and seen the hatred towards the Scots too, it's rife everywhere, not just in football. My dd and ds got abuse when we moved back to Scotland because of their English accents. I got abuse in England cos of my Scottish one. There are people like that everywhere, can't tar everyone with the same brush tbf.
My fb must have been different to yours, a lot of my friends were moaning about lawrenson and linekar.
And sorry, but they were very lucky in every game they played. Especially the Sweden one imo. But i firmly believe the way the commentators and pundits talk, that it riles more people in Scotland, probably Wales too. They looked mediocre, but were bigged up something chronic on the telly.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Lawrensen has to go - his commentary is not insightful, not funny and adds noting whatsoever. Terrible.
Actually, on the coverage I watched, all the commentators agreed after Italy won that the better team went through.
Whether England were lucky or not is a matter of opinion. In my opinion they looked good in parts during the group stage and deserved to top their group, and then they deserved to lose against Italy, which was more or less the attitude of the Linekar et al.0
