13 March - A very good day! First, my manager confirmed that my reduced hours will definitely be going ahead, which means I'll be on a four-day week as of 1 April. In reality, tomorrow is my last Friday as I'll be going on leave from the middle of next week until the end of March. It's going to be so strange having Fridays off, after over 20 years of working Mon-Fri.
Then tonight I came home & found out that I've got on a broadcasting course run by a local radio station! These courses normally cost a lot of money, but it's being offered free of charge to local residents & you get a recognised certificate at the end (LOCN level 2), so I'll be starting that on Wed 26 March. :j It's a 6-week course - you have your course session of one night a week (3 hours), plus you're required to go into the studio for at least an hour a week to practice what you've been learning, sit in on other people's shows to watch them at work etc. It's going to be very intensive, but it'll be worth it, as by the end you'll be researching for your own show & will have put at least two shows together ready to go on air. Learning the software they use will be something else, but it'll really help me for when I want to promote my own work. It's going to mean Wednesdays will be a long day, but I honestly don't care - the studio is at the bottom of my road, so I've got time to go home after work for dinner then stroll down the road to the studio. Even if it's tiring, it's only for 6 weeks, & I can always rest on the Friday.
It's so strange - I feel like someone's standing over me, guiding my feet where they need to go. I put off reducing my hours for so long (many years), believing I couldn't live on less money, yet here I am years later having gone BR & not caring that I'll have less money to live on. It's as if as soon as I made the decision to reduce my hours, things started happening with my musical ambitions, as if some higher power had to see me make a commitment to my music before giving me the opportunities that would help me. It's a very odd feeling, but not frightening at all.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

I don't know if I'll take them up on it, but it's lovely that they've made the offer & they made me cry with gratitude. I thanked them profusely for the offer, & if they ever read this, thank you again.

He said it was so liberating being able to get on with what he wanted to do and not some timetable wanted him to do. He felt so much better for it even if he was busy, he was busy with what he wanted and not with what 34 kids wanted. Good luck and don't forget don't come on here you will only get tied up helping us lot, when you really should be concentrating on your musical career. We should hate to hear in a couple of years time when you are beinginterviewed as the 'next big thing' you could have made it earlier but for us

It could be you just weren't ready for all this earlier and needed to do what you were doing and now your ready your Guardian Angel is helping you take the steps you need. Don't know if that makes sense at all. I'm not thinking straight this morning, only ad 2 hours sleep between dealing with the toddler and the baby and I need matchsticks and a big dose of caffiene and glasses  .

25 March - Had my second tutorial for my OU course today. I seem to be on the right path with the work I'm doing, so I'm glad about that, as there have been times I've wondered whether I'm really grasping the theories. I've got 3 weeks to get the first assignment in, but I'm going to try to get it done by the end of next week if I can, as I've got a nasty habit of leaving things to the last minute then racing to get them done on time.
I'm having a hard time resisting spending money on a new computer. I don't know what it is about those things - it's as if a huge magnet appears out of the sky, dragging me to the next special offer. It doesn't help that the prices are actually very good ones either.A friend reminded me tonight that I've got studio time to pay for & spending this money now will make it harder to pay for the studio, so I've got to keep my mind focussed on that, but it's hard. Roll on midnight 27 March, when the offer will be over.

26 March - Had a good session at my broadcasting course last night - we started using the controls last night, & it's so much harder than it looks. It's very intense & I've got to get some practice in asap, otherwise I'll forget what we covered last night by the next class. :eek:BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

27 March - Eerie or what? I rang the radio station just after 3pm & asked if I could go down to practice what we'd covered last night, & the station manager said there was some free time until 4pm. So I rushed around to get myself dressed & down there, & who did I bump into ON MY ROAD, in the space that takes all of 3 minutes to walk between my house & the radio station? Will Young!!!
I've never ever been a starstuck person, but I love his voice, so I was going all gooey with him sitting in his car in front of me wondering why this daft woman was simpering like Mavis Riley. He was coming out of the equipment hire place that's part of the studio I'm planning to use, the one I found myself in a few weeks ago. I got his autograph, & when I told him my stage name he thought it was a fantastic name for a singer. I'm annoyed that I didn't have any business cards with me, but I'm going to do some at the weekend & see if they'll let me leave them there for anyone needing a session singer. I would love to work with Will if the opportunity came up.
Floated to the radio station on air, & told the station manager, who was suitably impressed. I topped off the day by getting longer to practice in the studio because someone else cancelled at the last minute - I really appreciated it, & by the end I was really getting used to the mixing desk. I wouldn't mind getting a small one for myself - I'll see if I can find a decent second-hand one. I'm allowed to go in tomorrow to observe two DJs working on two different shows - not everyone likes having someone in the studio with them, so I'm very pleased to get a chance with two.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
