24 May - could Dell be any more stupid?? Having agreed to pay me compensation for sending me a used laptop & then me having to waste time waiting for the new one that didn't come on the arranged date, the clowns then credited the money to the account that was closed when I went BR. This despite me telling them verbally & in writing that I no longer had the account, & asking them to telephone me for the new account details! I've been wrangling with them since last week about it, & thankfully the bank have just confirmed that they sent me a cheque yesterday for the closing balance plus the Dell refund. I'll inform the OR that I've got the money next week before banking the cheque (& a complaint will definitely be going in to Dell about the way the issue was handled), but when this sort of thing happens it makes you feel like you've got to go cap in hand to get back what was yours in the first place.
Got a letter yesterday from Lloyds TSB, confirming that I can still use my current account with them. I don't quite get it, as I owed them thousands on their credit card. However, if they say I can use it, I'll keep it as a back-up for emergencies.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

26 May - Sometimes having what seems like a psychic mum is a good thing. She's coming from overseas to stay with me later this year for 6 weeks, & she's just rung to say not to book a holiday as she's paying for me to go to Jamaica & stay with them for 6 whole weeks from about mid-December until late January! :j:j She wants me to rest properly after my surgery (I've had nearly 5 years of it), but doesn't want me to travel until I'm totally well enough to do so, so I'm going to get a heavenly break in the sun where I can do absolutely nothing for weeks on end. I've got to make sure that I save enough money to cover the rent & bills while I'm away, but I should be able to do that, as the OR has allowed me holiday money & I've got over 6 months in which to do it. Some days I've felt better than others (post-operative pain still hasn't gone yet, but it is controllable), & she's really cheered me up by giving me something so special to look forward to. I love my mum.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Thanks, guys - I know parents can sometimes be a pain, but mine live so far away, & yet she manages to come up trumps just when I really need her.
I'm itching to get my feet in the sand at Montego Bay already. I'll be able to get loads of cheap goodies in the autumn sales here ready to wear out there - I love the heat, & it will be soooo hot in December & January. I'll be good though, & use my sewing machine to make some cheap sarongs & skirts.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

28 May - For the first time in my life, I've opened my front door & have asked someone to leave.
Since going BR, I've assumed that no-one particularly relevant to me saw the advert in the local paper because I didn't see it myself & no-one's passed any comment to me about it. Just after 1pm today, an old acquaintance popped round, saying she was in the area & thought she'd pay me a visit. She hasn't seen my new home, so I showed her round & then the comments started - "How have you managed to do this - it must have been so expensive", "These units cost a fortune", "It's going to cost you loads to do all the decorating" etc. After about the 5th one, I asked her why she kept talking about money & it turns out she saw the classified ad. I've never been good friends with her - I met her through a friend of a friend, & I certainly didn't even tell her I was moving never mind give her my new address, so either it was in the advert or she looked it up.
You know how you can always tell when someone's pretending to care about you, but really they're twisting the knife? She wittered on about how she could never go BR as it has such a stigma & EVERYONE looks down on you for not paying your way, & how paying your bills has to take priority over going out, buying new things etc. Then she said going BR must be such a burden, & it must be soooo hard keeping it from people & hoping they wouldn't find out. I just saw red & told her that she would understand about burdens, since when her son went to prison yet again for burglary, handling stolen goods & fraud she must have dreaded people finding out about that, especially as most people coming to her home must wonder if she has receipts for everything in it. She went beetroot in seconds (she didn't know I knew about her son until today), so I told her to leave and not to return until she had something to say that I needed to hear.
I shocked myself. I've never gone out of my way to hurt someone, & I know what I said did hurt her. But I felt strangely cleansed by doing it, so I don't see an apology coming her way any time soon.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

30 May - Seems panicking is going to be my way of life for a while yet. Went online to pay my rent & Council Tax - neither would go through! :eek:Tried using the credit/debit card payment line - the Council Tax went through but not the rent, so I thought that maybe the OR had informed my council after all & my reference number had been changed.
Rang the council - they couldn't get the rent to go through online either, but when I tried the credit/debit card line again a few minutes ago, it went through without a problem. :j I'm trying so hard to make sure that the rent isn't just paid but is overpaid, & system glitches like this make my head spin because I immediately think either I haven't got the money in the account or the tentacles of the OR have reached yet another part of my life. I think I'm going to be like this until I'm discharged.
Had to laugh last night - got 2 e-mails from Lovefilm inviting me to rejoin them with a special price offer. Given that they took money for over 3 months from my account that they shouldn't have because they didn't action my subscription cancellation & wouldn't refund it (they reckoned that I hadn't cancelled, though I did it via their website & also telephoned them), I had no crises of conscience when I went BR apparently not having returned some dvds to them. As left hand doesn't seem to know what right hand is doing, there's no way I'm going back to them now.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
