    Follow the simple rule of:
    1 cup porridge oats
1 1/2 cups of water and milk mixed (for creamier porridge, use all milk and no water)

I use 2.5 units of liquid (water or water/milk) to 1 of oats - if I use less then the oats tend to seem undercooked.

    A friend uses 3 to 1.

Use a teacup or small glass to measure for one person.
As long as you use the same container to measure each ingredient, you can vary the quantity produced very easily to make for more people.

"Value" variety oats are just fine - and about 60p for a huge bag.

    Follow the simple rule of:
    1 cup porridge oats
1 1/2 cups of water and milk mixed (for creamier porridge, use all milk and no water)

chuck all this in a small pan, add a teaspoon of sugar or honey if liked, and bring to the boil, stirring all the time.

Hot cheap breakfast in 3 mins.

You can add fruit, jam, syrup, nuts, or a spoonful of chocolate spread to it to make it different.

I make mine very similar to yours. I use a half cup measure which gives 40g porridge, with half a cup of skimmed milk and half a cup of water. Two minutes in the microwave, and a squirt of golden syrup.

I have porridge every day for breakfast, I don't get a chance to eat again till about 2pm and it keeps me filled up.
  • porridge - yum! I have it made with full fat milk (if you are slimming you can make it with water to cut out the calories), a bit of ground cinnamon (apparently that helps keep weight off too?), a spoonful of nuts, a spoonful of seeds and a squirt of agave nectar which sweetens but keeps it all low GI. Keeps me warm and full up until about 11am.

In the depths of winter though my favourite thing is to have a blob of cream in it, and around christmas, it's a good way of using up brandy butter... mmmmmm. Am dribbling!

When it's hot I have greek yoghurt instead of porridge, but with all the nuts and cinnamon etc... yum yum yum:j

I use 2-2.5 times liquid to oats - hate thick porridge! I use 1 cup of oats, 1 of milk and 1 of water, adding more liquid of it seems too thick

  • I make my porridge with water and oats, and a pinch of cornish sea-salt. Then serve with a spoon of golden syrup. I make it in a big bowl in the Remoska. (If I was well organized I would use the extra timer switch to switch it on before I get up). I eat the porridge straight out of the bowl, so no sticky washing up.

The other day I saw some toadstools growing in the grass in our Brixton housing estate. I checked with a knowledgeable friend, who was able to confirm that they were mushrooms. That was a tasty and cheap breakfast.
  • That sounds delish! I am going to try it soon

This morning I had sweet french toast with a caramelised banana and a slice of bacon. Not bad value considering how delicious it was, rather indulgent and similar to pancakes, bacon and syrup.

How do you make caramelised 'nanas? They sound yum!

I just munched my way thru a delicious breakfast/brunch of

2 slices of bacon (chopped), pan fried in butter  then threw in some cooked new potatoes from the fridge, I bashed those up with a wooden spoon so they were chunky but crumbly and then fried it all off til crispy. Load of freshly ground black pepper.

Served up with 2 runny fried eggs for dipping :D

I reckon it cost me about £1 which is a big difference from the Mr M breakfasts that I sooooo love to treat myself to but cannot afford to.

In fact, it was nicer, cheaper AND I didn't have to use the car to get there OR spend a load of money in the store by being tempted by offers :D

    Well done me :T :rotfl:
