hi everyone, i've been lurking around here for quite a while now and trying hard to become more old style, it actually fits quite well with my outlook on life and i've been quite successful with menu planning and cooking from scratch etc. the big problem i have is breakfasts, its not as bad on the days i'm home but i work 3 days a week and just dont have time for brekkie in the morning, i have until now been bringing in a bowl of cereal and a yoghurt (i have a dislike for milk that borders on phobia!), however, i dont really like either cereal or yoghurt! as time has gone on i eat less of it and get hungrier for lunch earlier so end up buying snacks
, today even though i packed my brekkie the thought of eating it just turned my tum and i stopped at a cafe on the way in for some toast:eek:.
basically i'm after any ideas for brekkies i can bring into work with me, i dont have access to kitchen facilities in work and have a 1 hr commute so its got to stay good for that long, also ideally its something that i can make in advance, i can't drag myself out of bed any earlier than i do to cook up a storm, thats why brekkies at work anyway! initially i thought of making muffins and cereal bars etc but i am trying (not very successfully) to watch my waistline and all the recipes i have found so far are full of sugar and butter any low fat recipes would be gratefully recieved, plus any other ideas.
though i post very little i read a lot and i know how resourceful you all are so thanks in advance for any help you can give

I know you say you don't like milk, but do you eat it in things - like pancakes for instance? You could make a batch of pancakes (I think the English call them drop scones?) and add some defrosted frozen berries to them as they cook. These would last a few days in the fridge and you'd just take out what you need each day. (made with skimmed milk would be low fat and much less sugar is needed when you add fruit)
Some people would butter these, but my kids just eat them as they are (often grabbed in mad dash to the bus stop!).
It's only a game

How about a smoothie? Very quick and easy to prepare, portable (if you invest in a plastic beaker of some description) and low fat if you use low fat yoghurt or fruit juice as the base. You can (I think) chuck a spoonful of oats in too, to make it more satisfying...
Skint but happy with my lovely family

to clear up yes i do eat milk in stuff as long as i cant taste it! its a weird thing stemming from an incident with dinosaur milk cartons in primary school - dont ask! but i will cook with it and dont mind yoghurt, love cream and ice cream etc its just liquid milk - eugh!
i did think about banana bread, i thought the bananas would be slow release to get me through to lunch, is it fairly calorie consious then?0 -
Hi jenmark,
I often use this website for breakfast ideas: breakfastandbrunch.com
They have a section on ten minute breakfasts and deskfasts and breakfasts to go that might help.
Or have a look through this previous thread for more ideas:
Portable breakfast ideas
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

Spanish tortilla would be lovely for breakfast. Fried up potatoes, (onion if you want) and eggs... Simple, can keep in the fridge for 4 days and is scrummy
Scones, When i worked for British Coal, they would do the most amazing scones in the world - i have never been able to replicate them
Other than that, if I have to grab something on the run it would usually be dried apricots, a handful of nuts and a banana - keeps me going all morning0 -
I eat porridge daily. It is warm, filling and acts as a slow release for energy for quite a few hours and leaves me feeling satisified and full.
