What an old thread but I do love breakfast
Current favourite is an egg or two scrambled in the microwave, big dollop of quark, microwave some more then eat on brown toast. Takes me 2 minutes to cook!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
My favourite breakfast is porridge made with milk then a couple of handfulls of sultanas stirred inkids eat just about anything they can lay their hands on for breakfast at the moment they are into American style pancakes with raisins and grated lemon zest in.They make up huge batches and freeze them then just take out how many they want and pop into the micro for a few seconds to warm through.Paul Walker , in my dreams;)0

A thick slice of white bread toasted, 2 poached eggs and hollandaise sauce :-) sometimes if I have time I'll fry a couple of slices of bacon. It's my own, much cheaper version of eggs Benedict :-)
Most days though I have coffee and a couple of slices of toast and marmalade or jam. Sometimes I'll have cereal, but that's not very often.the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Another vote for porridge here, a bowl full with a handful of fruit (whichever is on offer) mixed in should set you up for the day and it's cheap. :jIn order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.0

OH always has porridge made with jumbo oats and milk and sprinkled with blueberries. He says it satisfies him all morning until lunch.
I'm more likely to have a scrambled egg with tomatoes and maybe a piece of toast. Sometimes, when I'm going to the gym early I just have yoghurt with a few berries and then have a hard boiled egg later.
If I didn't have a problem with dairy I'd have porridge too - but I've tried it made with soya milk, rice milk and almond milk and none of them do it at all for me. Haven't yet tried it made with water - will do that sometime soon, but it doesn't fill me with desire!
Wanted to add - that oats with optional nuts, seeds and dried fruit, (muesli) soaked overnight can be very tasty - I've only done it with milk, but I believe apple juice might be good too - grated apple or any fresh fruit can be added when serving.0 -
I was about to launch into a long reply and then saw that I seem to have covered my breakfasts on here about a year ago. But now, as well as the eggy, marmitey, savoury things I was eating then I'm afraid I've also taken to having a piece of seeded brown toast with Shippams salmon paste on it (has to be Shippams, tried M&S and it's rubbish). One pot lasts for ages and it's low in calories as you don't need much, has no sugar and has that salty kick I need for breakfast (since my ideal would actually be piles of very crispy strongly smoked bacon and a similar pile of underdone scrambled egg every day - which I only have about twice a year now).
PS I don't mean I have them all every day - it's EITHER toast and marmite OR salmon paste etc etc0 -
Breakfast need not be something you think of as a 'traditional' breakfast. A number of other cultures don't have specific foods to be eaten at specific times of day, so things like leftover rice / curry etc would be common breakfast foods. As long as what you are eating is fairly nutritionally sound, there is no reason to stick to traditional brekkie foods.
That said, I personally prefer something quite light and quick, so often nice fresh bread with a bit of butter, or nuked oats or cereal. I have been known to have leftover pizza straight out of the fridge though - and not only when I was a student!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Just checked this thread out for ideas for hollow legged 15yr old DS who's back to school tomorrow :j Some great ideas for quick filling brekkies thank you all very much. Would like to add my fave which is a slice of wholemeal toast, dry cut into fingers dipped into yoghurt omnomnomSometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -

I spent some time on a kibbutz a few (well 20 ) years ago and along with semolina, toast and eggs for breakfast, they also eat Israeli salad - chopped tomatoes, cucumber and green pepper (but it has to be chopped to just the right size). When cereal was eaten it was in the evening as the evening meal was the smallest of the day.
I've stopped buying cereal as it's too expensive. Now we have the option of toast or porridge.0
