Welcome neatfox, I'm sure if your post needs moved admin will move it for you. (I think that it would probably have been better to start a new thread rather than post on this one, just go back to Greenfingered board and click on New Thread at the top left and you're away!
)
Anyway, to answer you question, have you thought of using something colourful like a garden ornament of some kind? I know that you asked for plant ideas but I put a life sized squirrel under a tree in my garden and it makes me smile each time I see it. (Lots of reasonably priced things in Poundshops, B&M Home Bargains etc) Sometimes it's easier not to fight with nature...The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

even weeds won't grow
I think you've answered your own question! You could try vinca, maybe spring bulbs, daffs etc.0 -

I've just watched Gardener's World which was shown on BBC1HD at 1.49 this morning! At the end Monty announced that GW won't be cancelled due to the Olympics and will be shown every week through to November! May we celebrate a small victory folks? I'd like to think that they were influenced in some small way by all of the complaints?:beer::jThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

Welcome!
What about looking at some woodland plants, as they would not be getting much sunshine in their natural situation, it will be trial and error I suppose until you find the right plant.
Lily of the valley?
Forget me nots? I think they like a bit of shade0
