I have something similar to Spike on my windows - a wee hook & latch thing that means I can have it open a couple of inches but the cats can't get out.
I have that on the sideways opening window in the kitchen but for some reason the NI Housing Exec didn't seem fit to have them fitted to all the other windows in my first floor apartment..0 -
Oh dear, am feeling terribly guilty now

We had mentioned that 2 cats might be a possibility, although after we got home from meeting Maisie we both said that it might be a blessing in disguise to have only the one right now. Although hubby has had a cat for years, it's all new to me & I'm getting wibbly & nervous about the responsibility of Maisie alone.
Nice lady from CPL has just messaged me asking if we were still looking to get a second cat as there is a similarly aged girl who is not dealing very well with being in foster care & is quite depressed. I felt terrible having to say no. I know we _could_ cope if we had to, but I'm feeling quite overwhelmed already
feel like I've let the poor 2nd cat down

You haven't let any cat down, I am sure they will find a home for the other puss soon. You have to do what is right for you, if you are not comfortable with taking on two at this moment in time, you shouldn't do it

I have an almost infinite capacity for feeling guilty - always have done. If there was an Olympic event for taking on misplaced guilt, I would win gold medals every time

One thing I noticed though, is that this branch of the CPL never posts to our town's facebook wall. It got me wondering if they realise that posting on this wall would open up the audience to many more people. I've sent them the link & suggested that they do post on the town's wall - even offered to post a link myself
I've now got myself worried that they're not going to let us have Maisie because we turned the other cat down! Ridiculous I know. I can be crazy cat lady even before I get the cat !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
We went from one cat to two and it really is so much different with two. There is nothing to say that they will get on, you havetnt even met the other cat, and it is so much more expensive with 2 lots vet bills each year, 2 lots flea treatment etc.
You have done a brilliant thing rescuing A cat, dont feel bad cos you dont feel able to take on 2.“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0 -

Great idea! :j

They'll still let you have Maisie, they'll understand that not everyone wants more than one cat, they'll be pleased to have found such a great home for her, so they wouldn't want that to change
Now stop feeling guilty :rotfl:0 -
It would be rather stressful for Maisie moving home as well as having to meet a new cat, especially if she's a single cat at the moment.
You can always reconsider next spring when there will be more impossibly gorgeous cats willing to share a slave.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
She is beautiful, we're on our third and fourth tabbies, I wouldn't have any other type of cat because they rock
Fridaycat, just wanted to say your furries are gorgeous too! When we had our cat pts in March we considered getting a Bengal but after reading the Bengal rescue site I was put off, thought I wouldn't be able to cope with a Bengal, toddler and a crackers Cocker Spaniel
we got 2 rescue tabbies, but we might consider getting another cat at some point...sorry OP for going off topic. 0 -

Thanks for your lovely comments :j Bengals are fantastic cats, but they do need lots of activity else they will get bored easily! Despite what some people might say, they are not aggressive (unless mis-treated, but that's the same for any cat) but they aren't really lap cats either, though they are very loyal and affectionate, they just don't like being restrained.
Anyway, I'll get off my soap box. Sorry, Grimbal

not at all ! I love Bengals too &, at one time, was considering a Bengal until we realised that we couldn't give one of these lovely creatures the environment they deserve"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510
