After seeing a post from our local CPL on facebook, we went to meet 2yr old Maisie this afternoon.

She still had one of her kittens with her, so was protective of her, but was very happy to interact with us & let us pick her up to make a fuss of her :)

Her last kitten is being re-homed on Friday, so we're going afterwards to take Maisie straight away.

We then got all caught up in the moment, and very un-MSE style went straight to PAH & bought:

carrier
litter,scooper & tray
couple of toys
cat food - wet & dry
cat wipes

we still need to buy:
water & food bowls, mat for underneath
catbed/tree
collar

anything else?

Ooooh, a very pretty cat. She is lovely.

Cats don't mind what they eat and drink out of, two bowls from your cupboard will do. Or 10p bowls from a car boot sale or charity shop if you haven't anything suitable.

They sleep anywhere/find their own beds. A blanket in a cardboard box maybe. One of mine sleeps on the bed with me, the other anywhere. A scratching post is a good idea, but doesn't have to be anything elaborate, unless you have the cash to spare.

I don't have collars on my own cats, don't like them. They could get caught up in bushes.

Not sure what cat wipes are for, wipe the cat, or wipe up the mess they make? :undecided

You might consider Frontline Spot On for fleas. It seems you have the basics. Thank you for giving a rescue cat a home, I am foster mum for a cat rescue, and we need more cat loving people to come forward.

Loverly cat!! She's so lucky to have found such willing slaves!...

I wouldn't bother with a cat bed,Daisy sometimes uses the one I got off free cycle & as for a mat,I use a tea tray.

Oh - if you need worming/flea treatment look online at those:

    https://www.animeddirect.co.uk

    https://www.vetuk.co.uk

Do not buy flea/worming from vets (too expenive) or from pet shops (avoid Bob Martin stuff like a plague)

Get Advantage for fleas and Drontal for worms - both online pet pharmacies are legit and sell this without prescription.

    Cat tree:

https://www.zooplus.co.uk has great salection and it is a great pet shop in generaal

Cat bed - none of mine (got 4 to 6 at any given ttime) sleeps in cat bed - some sleep with me and some whenever they feel like.

Car litter - great offer on this one at Zooplus now - wood based and clumping:

    http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/tigerino/tigerino_clumping/300899

Cat wipes? Not sure what those are for? Probably waste of money...

Cat dishes/toys - 99p stores, pounshops.. they have lovely things fort cats

thanks all ! It's all still a bit surreal for me still as it's all happened so fast. had a look at Zooplus (TCB too so 5% cashback) & bought a cat tree that has a couple of beds high up, so hopefully she'll take to that. They also had a sale on some cat bowls, so got a couple.

Re: cat wipes as everyone is asking :o They're for the cat - just wanted a skin safe option in case of accidents during her first few days of a new home/new people/new diet......

Gettingready: thanks so much for all of your advice. I wouldn't have thought about getting flea/worm treatment at anywhere else than the vets, so that will be very handy. WIll go & sort that out now

I just can't tell you how excited I am! She was such a sweet little girl, I just hope that she settles in with us well & will enjoy her new home

    She is gorgeous, congratulations :j

Cat bowls - although cats will eat out of anything, you are better off avoiding plastic bowls. This is for two reasons: (1) some cats are allergic to plastic and could develop feline acne if fed out of a plastic bowl, and (2) plastic tends to get little nicks and scratches which can harbour germs.

I would recommend stainless steel bowls for food and ceramic for water.

I don't like collars either. They can get caught on branches, and I've heard of the "safe" ones not always releasing when they should.

Cat beds - not all will sleep in them, but I have 4 dotted around the house and all 4 are slept in at one time or another by 4 of my 5 cats. It's only really my Harry who doesn't like cat beds.

You may wish to consider getting a litter mat which goes at the entrance/exit of the tray as this can reduce tracking of litter significantly.

You should also consider getting a comb/brush as even short-haired cats should be groomed once a week to help prevent fur-balls.

righty ho, ordered a grooming brush for her

The bowls are stainless steel as I vaguely remembered someone on here writing about avoiding plastic. A good point about the litter mat - will probably pop into PAH in the week to get that

once we get Maisie settled in, I'll post a few more photos of her.

ETA: I thought hubby was less excited about this than me until he showed me that he's changed the wallpaper on his phone to the photo above :D
