oh crikey, had forgotten about upstairs windows

Spike, that's an excellent idea to use an old orange box to put the litter tray in. OH will be off to Lidls soon anyway, so will tell him to keep an eye out!
I'm so excited at the thought that this time next week, we'll have had Maisie at home for a whole day. Hope we don't disappoint her "Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
She is beautiful, I love tabbies.
Spike7451 what have you used to sort your windows?? Mine have no sense of danger with open windows and we recently discovered one has worked out how to get out onto the roof via a 3rd floor skylight!!!!!
They like to sit on the frame ledge and get the wind in their fur. They haven't realised that the window opens when they do this!! I have plastic framed ones which open at the top.
I got some thin brass chain from the hardware store & some 1/2 inch self tapping screws, cut the chain into 6inch lengths.I removed the plastic cap covering the screw on the window latch, then replaced the screw there with a 1/2 in one, threading the chain thru the screw, then screwed the other end of the chain into the frame.
If yours open at the top,I'd attach the chain there, mine open at the bottom out.0 -
Thanks! They are indoor cats and will not exit via a wide open door for love nor money yet a window........Crafting for 2009 items doneOne patchwork blanket, two neck supports, one tea cosy, one knitted bunny, one knitted egg!0

Hello again ! Another quick question if I may ?
What's the best way to introduce Maisie to her new litter tray ? Would it be best to keep her in one room until she understands where things are, or just give her the run of the house ?
We have a utility room where we'll keep her tray - should we keep her in that room for the first night or so ?"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
I would definitely keep her in one room for her first day, so she doesn't get too overwhelmed by it all. I'm sure she'll work out her litter tray arrangements soon enough.... cats are pretty clued up when it comes to things like that. Or at least all of my tribe have been anyway

Yup, agree with Friday - I'd keep her in one room until she feels safe and happy and then sure she'll be exploring the rest of the house in no time!
I have something similar to Spike on my windows - a wee hook & latch thing that means I can have it open a couple of inches but the cats can't get out.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

thanks guys - do you think the utility will be too small a room (6 x 6ft), or should I keep the door between the utility & kitchen open for her too?
Thinking of:
- pick her up Friday night. Keep her in kitchen & utility whilst making/eating dinner
- shut her in utility for the night
- come down Sat AM, open up the door & let her explore kitchen (fairly big room) whilst I'm in there all day (charity bake sale !!)
- shut her in kitchen & utility on Saturday night
- open up whole house to her on Sunday
does that seem sensible ? Sorry for all of the questions !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
I think that sounds ideal, Grimbal :T0

My extremely clean and tidy rescue cat peed on the floor of the kitchen the first night she was with us. She never did it again, it was just a reaction to moving in - so don't be surprised if Maisie does the same.0
