I think everyone needs to lighten up.
If jokes upset some of the faint-hearted, they do need to toughen up.0 -
@ Op - I have read most of the thread but may have missed some but if the bloke who threatened to bomb Robin Hood airport gets off - therein lies your defence.

To be fair to OP, if they told jokes to illustrate a point and explained the point/s they were making after each joke and that they wouldn't tell the jokes in the staff room at break/lunchtime then a FWW would be appropriate. I'd like to know the outcome of this one. If OP resigns rather than being sacked, they could get round it on future job applications by saying they resigned due to work place politics and it wouldn't be appropriate to put them down for the employers reference but then needs to find a professional in an area relevant to job being applied for. I could be in similar position later this year, not at risk of losing job but there are things on my record for current job which could make it difficult for me to get employed elsewhere although some of the things are no longer issues and others I'm working on them.0

I'm the same here. We're are a multicultural workplace owing to the face of what we do (I need speakers of various languages).
We had one new staff member, straight out of Cambridge on an Italian/Russian course. One racist remark to one of our Russian staff and he was out the door before he could apologise (I heard it!)
Not at work, not even in public. Everyone thinks I'm English, and I'm far from it!

I am not going to legitimate the post by Sharpy2010 by quoting it here, but this vile and racist rubbish has been reported. For your information it was racist 40 years ago, and it is still racist.0

Quite. I seem to remember Til Death Us Do Part was intended to illustrate the stupidity of racism...
As for the recording - wondered if management had received complaints about OP before and brushed them off?
ETA OP, do you regret telling the jokes or regret being caught?"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you. "

Totally agree. I knew it was racist when I was 4, 40 years ago and hated it all then as much as I hate it now and always will.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Quite. But bearing in mind that at least one poster has said exactly the same thing, leaving out only one word.... and doesn't see it as just as racist as if you include that word.0 -

Shows what a pathetic nation we've become as a whole when we can't say anything at all for fear of upsetting someone else.
I will just quote the last bit of the post, as the first bit contains offensive/racist language.
A lot of people misunderstood the Alf Garnett thing. I remember the actor being interviewed once, and he said that he got a lot of people coming up to him, saying "we love it when you laugh at them ----s", to which he replied "we're not, - we're laughing at you!"
I suppose I do agree to some extent that the P-C culture can be a bit random and overly applied, and this is what gives rise to the sort of sentiments expressed in sharpy's post. No-one wants racism, misogyny (which, by the way I think is far more widespread and far less seen as a punishable offence), homophobia, etc, but equally no-one wants to be terrified of opening their mouths in case they get the sack?!0
