quick question for those in the know. after watching some vids on pantries and food storage on You tube, i had a light bulb moment when saw that they were decanting rice, lentils etc. in to jars.
Down the road is a local market with an old fashioned sweet shop, they sell off their old plastic sweet jars for 30p (my auntie buys them for her crafting scraps). Would they be any good for storing dried foods in?Oooohh, you lucky thing, I'd be in there like a shot.
Mum had re-purposed sweetie shop plastic jars for storing cereals and dry goods like flour and they lasted several years. The plastic will eventually age and go brittle and split. You can slow this process down somewhat by keeping them out of the light in a cupboard.
Hmmm, I know where there's an OS sweetie shop, I wonder if they have any they want to sell off..............?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

ours give them away for free, they just put them in a box outside with free to good home on it. in the past when i wanted a load of plastic tubs for work they even saved them for me and i just popped in and picked them up'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
I buy the glass ones in charity shops, i have a load of catering soup ones from AF, but cant get rid of the smell, so they have been assigned to coin holders. Any ideas to get rid of strong smells anyone - p.s. i have tried bleach0

i havent tried it myself yet, but i was thinking a table spoon or two of bicarb and leaving for a few days. i put bicarb in a bowl in the fridge and it does the trick at keeping the smells at bay.0

It's in the freezer. Not been on here as I have spent most of this afternoon in A&E with Dd. Nothing broken, just badly sprained.
Meant to tell you all. On Thursday I bought 2 tins of Chocs in Tesco for £8 in PENNIES.
It took 25 minutes and the self service till broke twice. But we all had a laugh. It actually cost me a little less than £8, as other customers kept throwing their change in.:rotfl:
Not very:money: on their part, but I'm not compaining :j0
