  • Had a really good time thanks unixgirluk :) Pics don't do it justice at all!! But would def go back again :D

Thinking back, I do wish I'd had my 'goals' sorted for November before I went. I know myself my mood wasn't quite what it should have been for the holiday, so didn't really get the benefit of it. Stressed too much, and I know made it awkward/difficult for the others unfortunately :(

Onwards and upwards though, right?! :)

  • Happy Friday all

Week is going grand. Have managed to keep my happy face on most of the time :D

One other thing I've tried to do, is that when something is in my head that's bugging me, I talk about it to the relevant person (usually OH ;)), get it sorted, then move on. I've spent too many years of my life over-thinking stuff and getting myself wound up and stressed out for absolutely no reason! Enough is enough!

Spending has gone a bit off course! Think this weeks budget, and more, was spent last weekend :( Then OH gave me cash to cover his part of the food shopping and fuel, and it's kinda gone too :o

Oh well. No point getting frustrated with myself. Just keep the head screwed on for the rest of the month and be sensible!!

In saying that... taking OH out for late lunch tomorrow for his birthday  Wee chance to get dressed up again which I'm looking forward to. He's going out with his mates for drinks tomorrow night (!!), so I'm heading off to see mum and dad for the evening :)

Have been speaking to one sister and SIL and we've agreed to meet up/cook dinner/eat out for crimbo instead of buying pressies so that's worked out well :) Seem to be on top of things regarding presents but still a few to sort out. Getting ideas is usually my problem :p

Hope you all have a great weekend :D

HAW, don't be too hard on yourself about the goals. You have them set now. You obviously needed the break. Sometimes it takes something like that (or a day out or whatever) to focus the mind.

Are you going anywhere nice for your OH's birthday? If you haven't chosen somewhere already then remember Vouchercloud (on most smart phones) and the weekly Martin's email for the latest 2 for 1's and other deals.

Don't beat yourself up about overspending, we've all done and sometimes its a necessity. With a bit of careful budgetting you'll get there. I did that this week and we had omelette and chips one night and beans&bacon on toast another. Quick meals, but also saved me some money.

If you need ideas for pressie then get over to the christmas board, lots of ideas over there. I've done winter car survival hampers for my Mum and Dad. They live quite remote so rely on their cars a lot (and Mum's disabled). In the kit is a small snow shovel (metal edged), demister pad, screen wash, exterior screen wipes (for muddy slush, bird poo etc), a long handled scraper with brush (for the snow on the roof), and a packet of mint imperials and I've made waterproof drawstring bags for them out of plastic rubble sacks. Cost? £10. Another idea you could do is a pot of gold, basically a container with gold wrapped sweeties and a scratchcard, you can include other items if you want.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  • Thank you for the reminder unixgirluk. It is easy to get easily discouraged by an 'off' day: be it mentally, emotional, physical or financially. The important thing is to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and move on. And smiling :)

I really shouldn't beat myself up for overspending as I (finally!) got myself out of debt earlier this year. Now instead of not spending to pay off debt, I'm not spending so I can save! :p But! I have a life to live too though so gotta find the happy medium! ;)

Thanks for the vouchercloud recommendation. Will have a look shortly. I just find that for most of those voucher sites I need to live either in Belfast or else mainland UK :( Our (not-really-that-wee) town doesn't usually get a look in. Although, Frankie and Bennys is opening here in a couple of weeks and I CAN'T WAIT!!!! :j

Thinking we'll likely head to The Wine Bar in Portrush for lunch tomorrow. The food is gorg :D

I'm trying to follow the Christmas 2012 thread but can't keep up! :rotfl: Did get a few ideas from it though.
I'm loving your 'winter survival kit' :) Think I'd suggested a couple things to you too! ;) I should probably do something like that for my dad as he's near impossible to buy for! :p Mum and dad live out in the country too (yes I miss it! :o:() Oh! Loving your idea of a pot of gold too! :D

Pots of gold are great :o, and very simple and yes you did suggest a few things for the winter survival kit, thank you.

I didn't realise where you were located, thats a beautiful part of the world. I worked in Lisburn about 7-8 years ago. My Dad's near impossible to buy for too, turns out some of the sweeties I've been buying him for the last I don't know how many years he doesn't actually like! :( ooops.

Will be looking into that for definite! Where'd you get most of your stuff for the WSK?

It sure is! Much as I do miss the country I do like it up round the coast here too! :) Lisburn isn't a bad town either actually! Lived in Belfast for a few years but big cities aren't my style :o

Besides...You can take the girl outta the country but you can't take the country outta the girl!
turns out some of the sweeties I've been buying him for the last I don't know how many years he doesn't actually like! :( ooops.

    :rotfl:

Too polite to tell you and didn't want to offend likely! Bless him :)

    Hi HeadAboveWater, :hello:

Just popping in to say Good Morning :) and that I really like the idea of the WSK. I'd add some of these:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mycoal-hand-warmers-10-pairs/dp/B001THB8RM/ref=pd_sim_d_4

..Because there's nothing more annoying than having the gear to deal with an emergency - then discovering your hands are too cold to use it! This could be a problem particularly for older folk.

I'd also put in a bar of Kendal M!nt Cake - more energy/inner warmth value than chewy mints and it will keep [sealed] for ages. ;)
  • Morning *Robin* :D

I thought the idea was great too! Thought another thing would be a wee torch or even a headlamp. Protein bars was the other idea!!

Great ideas! Keep 'em coming! :)

Doing ok overall with crimbo shopping, and keeping the number of people I'm buying for to a minimum which is good. And not spending too much on them either ;) (mum and dad the exception to the rule though!)

  • Please do that'd be great unixgirluk :)

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally not doing well with November NSDs :( Still stuck on 2! Lunch today with mum and lunch tomorrow with OH. In saying that I usually bring my own lunch with me so at most I'll only be buying a coffee so still saving in a way...

Years ago I had a bank account with Halifax. With the charges etc I was getting I just could not get myself out of my overdraft  Had to leave them in the end. Wasn't impressed at all. Swore I'd never go near them again.

    But!

Decided I'll play them at their own game ;) I applied for a current account and got the new details confirmed yesterday! I'll transfer in my £1000, and transfer it straight back out again, just so I can get my £5 a month. £60 a year. For the next million years. I might just about make back the money that I lost to them in bank charges!! :rotfl:

(Yes I am aware they do have their £100 switching offer on at the minute but I've only just opened my account with FD and I'm happy with where I am)

That's the latest with me anyway. How is everyone else doing?
