i think the ones with genuine disabilities should be given benefits.

i think youll find the majority (if not all) genuine claimants would agree with that statement. the problem is identifying who is genuine & who is not and the current reforms are just not doing that. the shirkers know exactly what they have to say in order to retain their benefits & will lie through their teeth in order to keep them but the genuine claimants often play down their 'disabilities' because not only is it 'normal' for them but they also dont want to wallow in self pity so try to focus on the positives and put the negatives out of their mind as much as possible. so the reforms are doing absolutely nothing to get rid of the ones who lay it on thick but instead are penalising people in genuine need and thats why they are so against it, NOT because they think the shirkers should be allowed to keep their benefits but because they know damned well the reforms wont affect the shirker at all.

Lorry is absolutely correct here. I've taken to calling the DLA and similar forms a "how f**ked are you form" when describing them to my partner, just to get the point across about how these things need to be filled in, and it's me that does the filling in, partially in order to filter out exactly the problems that Lorry describes and partially because she cannot use a pen long enough to actually fill one of these things out without severe pain.

    Generally the process goes like:

me: Question 47: Can you easily do X unaided? yes/no tickbox.
her: Yes of course I can.
me: Don't you need to use aids for that?
her: Yes, I have to first do Y and Z and use mobility aid A, but it's fine I can manage.
me: So you can't do it unaided or without inconvenience then?
    her: I guess not
me: So the answer is no. *tick*
    her: :(
    me: Question 48...
her: Can we stop now, this is really depressing and I'm out of spoons.

Over and over again for god knows how many pages.

It's also incredibly distressing as each one of those simply hammers home how broken you are when normally you try to focus on the positives in order to keep on going.

Meanwhile the hypothetical shirker (of which there are far far fewer than people are led to believe) would just sit there, feet up on the table, going through the tickboxes: no, no, no, no, yes, no, 10 metres, no, no, yes, no, yay! done, now lets go check me lottery numbers.

Absolutely on the nail , this is why the new shake up has been intoduced as the current reforms have failed miserably, these shrikers have spoilt the whole concept, they should be named and shamed, i really feel for the genuine disabled and we should help them in every way possible.

In these current times people have lost everything their houses ,buisnesses, jobs , partners, im sure a few thousand disability cars going back is nothing in comparison with that,
money is tight , This will save this country billions Absolutely.

This is not happening, you are being lied to. To get or renew a disability tax the person eligable has to have an exemption certificate.

No I am not. He receives his tax renewal, takes it to the post office with his insurance etc and receives a free tax disc. I am not stupid, I am not being lied to. The vehicle is registered as a disabled vehicle and he receives a free tax disc.

Who can apply for a free disabled tax disc

Get a free disabled tax disc

See the following link to find out how to apply.

To apply for a free disabled tax disc, the vehicle must be either:
    • registered in your name
    • registered in the name of someone who only uses their vehicle to help you – for example, takes you shopping
You’ll need an exemption certificate to get your free disabled tax disc. You may be entitled to receive an exemption certificate if you’re receiving:
    • Disability Living Allowance - higher rate of the mobility component
    • War Pensioners Mobility Supplement
    Exemption certificates

If you’re getting Disability Living Allowance, your exemption certificate could be either a:
    • certificate of entitlement to Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
    • annual certificate of entitlement
    • DLA 404 certificate
These exemption certificates are issued by the Pensions, Disability and Carers Service.
If you’re claiming War Pensioners Mobility Supplement, you’ll have the WPA0442 Certificate, which is issued by the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency.
If you’re eligible under the Disabled Passenger Scheme, you’ll have a MHS330 certificate.
The exemption certificate must be valid and can only be used to tax one vehicle at a time.
See ‘Taxing your vehicle in the disabled class’ to learn more about exemption certificates and find out how to apply for your tax disc.

    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

Why would we want to understand YOU all you post is to cause trouble and nothing more.

We are all aware of what changes are going on without the need of you and your dictating posts,so do YOU really think we all wear rose tinted glasses.

That is not the PIP Criteria for getting a car on Motability. PIP mobility will be awarded on two levels - standard and enhanced. Only enhanced rate will get motability. Can move up to 50 metres unaided but no further. This would NOT get you PIP enhanced. It may not even get you standard PIP. To get enhanced rate you need to be in a wheelchair. Disabled people who use walking aids up to 50m will only get standard rate, thus missing out on Motability.
