Frump to Fab - Sizzling Summer Solstice to Awesome Autumn Equinox

Hi Everyone
Just back for a little chat.
Hi Maman great to see you back - don't worry about having anything significant to say - it's nice to just have a little girl talk now and then.
WW - Well done you. It's nice when you get to see some results. I'm afraid to say I've not lost any actual weight yet but certainly feeling less bloated and "podgy" round the midriff.
Picked up my new spectacles this afternoon - buy one get one free, one posh "best pair" and one plainer cheaper pair for around the house. I'm also going to look online for some fun types ones in various colours.
Re the wardrobe sorting. It's so hard to get the balance right. In the past I have thrown things away and then really regretted it, so now I only throw away things which I absolutely hate or which I know deep down do not flatter me at all. If I'm not sure I hang on for a while. And....I have to confess I have one or two items that I keep for purely sentimental reasons. The coat and hat I got married in. I may wear the coat again but I doubt the hat will be worn again.
I think Maman's idea of sorting them out in sizes first is a great idea. Just keep out the ones that actually fit nicely and store everything else away for now - you can decide later.
I found those vacuum bags are quite good. If push comes to shove you can put them in the loft because they are dust, damp and moth proof. Only clean clothes mind and of course they will get very badly creased, so you might need to be a selective there.
I have a very large wicker hamper type basket which goes at the end of the bed. I keep a lot of my "not wearing at the moment' clothes in there. They don't get creased and I put nice smelly soap in there - makes them smell nice and stops the moths.
55 dresses - that's 7 wearings each a year:D
I've just realised I don't own 1 dress. I always wear separates - perhaps I need to go shopping.
I'd love a nice dress.:rotfl:
Recently I browsed the internet looking at new make up styles and also fashion and style sites. I'm sorry I can't remember the names of the sites - I should have bookmarked them. I think I just googled Fashion for over Fifties or something but loads came up. Lots of ideas on how to update your look, what clothes will make you look dated and frumpy etc. It helped me decide on what to part with and what to keep.
Right off to have a little snack - just realised I've not had lunch yet. Can't sit here gossiping all day.
PS - My new thing this week - two new eye shadows.0 -
What shades are the eye shadows LL? I'm guilty of using the same one over and over again. I've threatened this for ages but never got round to it but this summer I will have a makeover at a make up counter and try to get some new ideas. And my eyebrows need doing desperately - will need to book an appt - its only about a fiver so no excuse really other than I don't like having it done.:o
A lovely quiet day at work today - no kids:rotfl: - they were all off doing other things, will be the same tomorrow too. Thursday and Friday are busy but not too bad. I got loads of those little jobs that you keep putting off done and my room is the tidiest its ever been - classroom fabbing!
Going to do the Shred tonight (seems ages since I last did it) instead of swimming, its really cold here and I don't fancy the cold wet thing afterwards.
Food has been better so far today too - no naughties (yet).
I'm going to try on a few more things later too and find something different to wear to work tomorrow. Got a few compliments about my top and trousers today so its inspired me to do the same again.
My work friend has booked us in to her gym with a free pass for me for the day after we finish school next week - there's a spinning class, swim and sauna and some lunch on the agenda so far, sounds lovely, the only problem is she's just run a marathon:eek::rotfl:. Its quite funny though that even though she's obviously very fit she's not the slimmest and is always talking about losing some weight. She'll put me to shame on the exercise front though.
I must get around to writing a list of fabbing things to do over my long holiday too - the time soon goes and I need a list of things to do to keep me occupied - it will include the garden, house and me.0 -
Mooloo - Life is too short for ironing! (Well, that's my excuse anyway!). I hope wearing the yellow jumper helped brighten your day?
Maman - I like the idea of sorting them into sizes, I might give that a try. I am limited space-wise, I live in a one bedroomed flat (with all those clothes!!!) but maybe I could put the clothes that fit and that I wear most often into one side of the wardrobe.
Lessonlearned I don't have a loft either unfortunately! 55 dresses, it does seem ridiculous when I see it written down like that!January 2016:

Just a quickie - would you consider Botox? I'm seriously thinking about having it between my eyebrows (frown lines?). Everywhere else is ok for now but I'm getting deeper wrinkles here and don't want them to get worse. It seems that around £150 for this one area is about the norm.
Would you?0 -
Just a quickie in answer.
Botox - yes I am considering it - when money permits and I can pluck up courage. Why not - I think it's proven to be safe enough. I think just a light touch though to relax the lines rather than try to eradicate them completely iyswim. I don't expect to look 30 again. I'm happy to settle for less haggard. I do have some pretty deep forehead furrows.
On that front I have been using a serum recently - one of my own concoctions - olive oil, frankincense and rose oil. My skin looks and feels much nicer and I don't know if it's my imagination but it seems to look nicely "plumped up" and some of the fine surface lines have disappeared. Mind you I am getting more sleep now so I think that helps too.
Eyeshadows - one smokey grey, one smokey lavender. I have brownish/hazelish eyes. They used to be nearly all brown but are now definitely more hazel. How weird is that. Do eyes change colour when you age.???

I only have a few fine lines (so far!) but yes, I would consider it! If I could afford it I would probably get it done but I'm not sure what my family/friends would think about it, I think there would be some negativity. I think I would only tell those closest to me. I will probably get it done in the next few years.
In fact, I would probably get everything done if I had the money! When I was younger I used to be totally against anything like that and didn't think it right that women felt the need to take such drastic measures in order to look a certain way and to feel accepted by society, and although I still feel that to an extent, I also feel it would do a an awful lot for my confidence and would be one less thing to have to worry about ( ie. the world is falling down around me...but at least I look good!).
Although I do think it is a pity that people are so quick to judge on appearance and don't always stop to find the hidden beauty in our world.
If you are seriously thinking about having it done, and can afford it, then go for it! £150 sounds very cheap, I thought it was a lot more than that? Make sure you go to someone reputable, it might be worth paying a little extra so that you get someone who will do a good job.January 2016:

Lessonlearned - Yes, your eyes can change colour as you age as the cells in the iris lose the ability to hold on to their pigment.
I love the sound of the home made frankincense serum! Where do you buy your frankincense from?January 2016:

Madrabbitgirl - I think the price has come down quite a bit since it was first introduced. Having looked at the websites of a few reputable companies/clinics (transform, etc) it ranges between £130-200 for one area and up to £450 ish for 3 areas (e.g. frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet).
A well known clinic near me does it for £150 ish for frown lines and its done by doctors not nurses/beauticians.0 -
LL - I never really used to wear dresses, or even skirts much, until last year. Asda can have some quite nice 'casual' dresses - I have a purple jersey style dress from there and one with a kind of peacock feather pattern on it. Quite nice in winter with thick tights and boots. New eyeshadows sound good - keep thinking I need some new ones. I tend to wear just eyeliner a bit now though, I have hazelish eyes as well and think lavender looks nice with them.
ww - am guilty of needing the eyebrows done as wellgreat that you're planning lots for over the summer. On the botox front I don't think I would personally but if you want to and can afford it then don't see why not. The only thing I would say though is that I believe it doesn't actually last that long - I think I read somewhere between 3 and 6 months - so if you do start it and like the results it could end up getting expensive.
Decided not to go to choir tonight, am just feeling too tired. Will try and have a quiet night, though will probably end up at least sorting through some photos0 -
If it only lasts 3-6 months then unless you can afford to keep having it done it probably isn't worth it. I would like to explore more natural ways of staying youthful (and hopefully reducing fine lines) before I go down that path. Some people will try anything to stay young. I remember a while back in a well known health shop being told about a new miracle face cream containing ingredients derived from the slime of slugs! I laughed thinking it was a joke but the shop assistant looked quite upset with me!
