Ebay - overcharged on postage

I have contacted the seler asking for a partial refund for an item I received over the weekend.

I paid £7.50 postage and the parcel came marked at £3.65 so with allowances for packaging and time spent etc, I have asked for a refund of at least £3.50

The seller has not responded and has not got any items listed anymore.

If he still doesn't contact me am I over-reacting if I leave him a neutral for being overcharged?? I wouldn't care but I sell on ebay and am so paranoid about overcharging that I refund the buyer if it is over 50p!

Tough call, the difficulty is we agree to the terms and postage when we buy it :(

I feel your pain. I was charged £5.30 and it only cost £1.40 + packaging-and it was sent 2nd class. I'm considering marking them down on postage costs. The item was briliant but the postage extortionate.

Nope any seller that believes that wont last long on ebay.

You pay what is charged, if it is unreasonable then a buyer is eprfectly entitled to query that with the seller. Depending on what seller says the buyer can then leave feedback and stars (stars are actually more damaging than feedback) to let the next lot of buyers know what sort of experience they can expect.

However whilst th eovercharge here was quite big, I would not expect a full £3.50 back especially if it was well packed and/or boxed as well. A small refund would be more appriopriate.

So you have allowed 35p for packaging & time spent etc!!

Obviously without knowing what the item is and how it was packaged its impossible for anyone to say what is reasonable, but I would have thought it difficult to package up anything that needed bubblewrap or other packing, + sticky tape or a self-sealing wrapper for less than 30p. so that only leaves 5p for getting it to the post, never mind any time spent.

OK, you might think £3.85 is excessive over the cost of the postage, but I think your 'allowance' of 35p is just ridiculous !!
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

sorry are you on the right thread?

This is about post and packing and nothing at all to do with what fuel a car runs on!

No, fuel has nothing to do with post and packing. what next, charge me for the latte you have on the way!

This way lies an easy way to get a seller account restricted or suspended

Postage is an emotive subject and on many other forums they all slap each other on the back and agree that they 'should' charge for everything to make sure they don't lose out. However, I don;t think the priority is to see how much a seller can charge, or for what before they lose their account, I always try to present the viewpoint that keeping a selling account in good stead by following guidelines ultimately means a successful and profitible selling career.

Maybe because I still see suggestions that post and packing can include everything up to and including loss of earnings over a lunch time spent queueing at a post office (yes I've seen that as a 'cost' that the buyer should be charged for) means my responses can be terse as whilst this is still 'out there' sellers are losing their accounts due to falling stars.

So if my post seemed terse, I apologise.
