End of Conran Card

  • Like everybody else I am annoyed the way MBNA have handled the ending of the Conran card, why such short notice? surely they could of continued to pay cashback up until the statement in April?

If MBNA think my family members who have their own cards and me are going to drift into using an MBNA card they are very much mistaken, we all plan to send back our unused and blocked up MBNA cards, directly to Mr Rajiv Gupta at Direct of Co-Brand Partnerships at MBNA (the letter writer) and tell him what we think.

In the meantime we will have to find some other Cashback cards to apply for.

Does anybody know if Conran have found another card issuing partner? someone yesterday said they heard Bank of Kuwait? was joining up with them?
  • got the letter yesterday, only got the card 6 weeks ago, i'll be cancelling it after my march statement then

I knew there would be some other angry moneysavers (after a weekend without the internet and mse I feel like a limb has been removed!).

I am definitely going to cancel unless MBNA give me a good few months 0% balance transfer with no BT fee... I will try my arm and call at the end of next month. We'll see what happens ;-)

  • I received my letter from MBNA as well last week. They will lose my business after the end of the month and there is no cash back available.
I also use the GE Money card for supermarket and petrol purchases - for 3% cash back. They do not have internet access to my account - yet - but I will use this in future for all other purchases - which qualify for 1% cash back.

Apart from the good cashback deal on the Conran card, there is another problem with losing this card - they are excellent at dealing with problems on ebay, effectively insuring all payments made with the card. Paypal are useless and I have needed to claim money back off my Conran card on several occasions.

I spoke to the guys at Morgan Stanley when applying for their platinum card and they do not give ebayers the same protection.

Also applying for a Tesco Clubcard credit card - hopefully that will be as good as Conran

Just wondered if I could go back to Egg for business bills like royal mail postage. The trouble is downloading statements into tax accounting software.

First attempts to cut-and-paste to a 4 column spreadsheet are promising. There's are also some Google results for "screen scraper" "open source" but I can't say I understand what they're about.

Like a few others here I got the Conran card only about 6 weeks ago, as did a few members of my family. This was all of our first forays into cashback cards so very cheesed off that we didn't manage to really make anything from them.

Just as an observation, it seems to me the days of the cashback card might well be very numbered indeed.

Anyway, applied today for the Egg card and got accepted, only about half the credit limit of MBNA though, just waiting now for the inevitable letter that Egg will be discontinuing cashback in order to "better serve my needs" ;-).

With Egg not letting on how much longer they will be keeping the cashback...and Conran getting rid of theirs...I went for the Egg money for a CC...and I've just swiched my halifax account to the 1% cashabck (sorry they call it money back)...little or no interest on it, but then again I farm out my savings to other accounts...and the cashback (sorry moneyback:) ) is limited to £100...but I rekon anywhere would be pushed to pay me £100 interest on no savings, just my spendings :D

Applied for the Egg Money card today. Thought it would be easy as I already have an online account with them from when I had a credit card before. However they rang me shortly after I applied and asked me a very long list of personal questions - took over 25 minutes. They wanted full details of all my debts, income, spending habits (and my partners) AND wanted to know where I got the money to pay off 0% BTs on my previous Egg Card and what I had wanted the money for in the first place! I couldn't think of anything to say apart from that I was taking advantage of the 0%!

At least at the end of it they told me straight away I'd been accepted and what my credit limit was. However, if you don't like answering all these personal questions, you might want to steer clear.
