End of Conran Card

Apologies for the thread creep, but does anybody know if the attractive % cashback rates for the AMEX plat card apply for existing card holders or is it just for new applicants?
Thanks0 -

AFAIK New applicants. I dropped my Amex Plat when the new cashback rates came in. The CS guy said after 6 months, i could reapply as a new customer0 -
Hi guys,
Not that you need it as you have, as ever, gleaned most of the info for yourselves, but thought i'd just confirm that this has been verified by MBNA.
The last date to attract proft share is March 31st, and there will be no new applications allowed after that. It has been removed already from our articles that mentioned it!

I only moved across to the conran card a couple of months back after using the amex blue for a year as I wanted a single card that I could use everywhere, the curse of amex being that so many places don't take it. So you're not alone in the search for a new cashabck card
I did the same thing, and got my card in Janauary. Absolutely gutted about this.0 -
Me too, gutted...
One thing for sure is that I won't just 'drift' into being a non-cashback customer with MBNA as I'm sure they're hoping we all will. I'll be closing my account as soon as I've got the cashback paid.Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0 -
Who is everyone moving to then?
I've recently been rejected from Morgan, and the comments about Egg also stopping their cashback are a bit worrying.
If I am going to have another search on my file I want to be as sure as possible I will be accepted and they will offer cashback for a while. Who shall I go with?Proud to be a MoneySaver!

That's just my problem too. Who to jump ship to from the current card - they are all much of the same now - all around 0.5% with the threat that in the future it'll be shrunk a bit further. They try and drag you in with the treat of triple or double cashback for a limited period of time, but then it reverts to rubbish rates.0

Does the 31 March deadline only apply if your statement date is 31 March? The letter seems clear - no more cashback points earned "after your March 2007 statement" - for me that was 8 March. Will call the freephone number on Monday to check.0

Well I've not been on this site for a while now but now that I got the letter I thought I'd drop by. Totally  at this news!!
I think I may be off to Morgan Stanley which I thought were OK for customer services (although not as good as Amex), but their cashback rates dividing when you spend more, rather than multiplying, got me a little annoyed to say the least. Still, I used them before so better the devil you know I guess.0 -
I've also received a letter from MBNA yesterday. I emailed Conran - There response was as follows:
"Thank you for your enquiry. At this current time we have no plans to
continue the Conran Credit Card with another company but if the
situation changes we would most likely make an announcement through our
website".
I contacted Egg Money yesterday and was informed that their 1% cashback is guaranteed until 31st December 2007. Thorrr has posted that Egg CS informed him that 1% cashback is only guaranteed until 31st March. This is typical of CS' today, nobody knows anything
** Just spoken to Egg CS again - Now been informed that 1% cashback is not guaranteed to any specific date and could be increased/reduced or stopped at anytime. There is no decision pending with regard to their cashback rate after 31st March.**
Do I apply for an Egg Money card now or wait till the end of the month? Martin, it's over to you!Do It To Them Before They Do It To You
