You may be able to use this link as a way of modifying your diet to eat stuff that also meets the nutritional requirements of your pets. Plenty of work getting it right though. Some of the ethnic markets are cheap sources of ingredients. With care you may be able to get your current human food budget cover all of you. Good luck

As the OP is on HB, and her landlord forbids subletting it's highly unlikely that it will be of any use to the OP. Perhaps if you'd have read the thread you'd be able to give helpful advice, rather than just posting a link and forcing other posters (who have read the thread) to point out how unhelpful your abrupt link is.:)

Subletting and renting a room to a lodger are two entirely different things.

    No suggestions then?

There are two different things, but they are not two 'entirely' different things by any stretch of the imagination.

In fact they are both called subletting (they certainly are on the contracts that my parents use) and as the OP has said that her landlord forbids subletting, it renders your abrupt link (no actual help or context) quite useless. Which made it necessary for someone (myself) to point that out in order to help the OP properly.:)

OP, sorry for letting that poster rile me and waste so many posts on your thread. I do hope you can get something sorted out and I do definitely think its worth looking into renting a room.

Even if it was possible for the OP to take in a paying-guest or a lodger, every pound that they received in rent from them would be deducted from their own benefits, so it just wouldn't solve any problems for them at all. If they declared it. Moving from a two-bed to a smaller, more affordable property isn't s simple as it sounds when you have to come up with a month's rent in advance and a month's rent as deposit when you have no savings. And that's assuming you can find a landlord willing to let to you when you are dependent on benefits and have pets. The rental-market is bouyant in most places so landlords can afford to be as picky as they feel like.

I have just the one cat, rather than two like the OP, and it costs me one pound a week for his food and about another one for his cat-litter. He won't touch any wet-food because I've tried, so he's on cat-biscuits. He was previously quite happy on the Lidl ones that are a quid a kilo which lasted two weeks, but when I foolishly gave him the ones that are £1.99 for 750 grammes he wouldn't go back. Sensible boy.

That's not a huge expense for me and I'm on JSA as well and have been for some time. I'd rather cut the quality of my own food down rather have to cut the quantity of his. I have my fingers, and everyting else crossed about his health as I have no insurance for him any longer. But we'll have to cross that bridge when and if we come to it.

    Hi.

I'm trapped - i can't see moving as an option.

No deposit, no rent in advance and no money to move my furniture etc.

Also yes, 'no dss, no pets' is the norm for private landlords.

    I've got nowhere to go.

    I've no family to help.

I don't want to give up my cats, it's a last resort.

Long term receipt of benefits is hard going.

As everyone knows bills have gone up and the extra 3 quid a week benefit doesn't cover that.

I live on pasta n rice so my cats can eat.

I'm just feeling despondent and have difficulty seeing a future.

But the cats and i will struggle on for abit longer.
