  • Oh Dalek really feel for you as been there - first thing I did when I got a new job was set up my "cat pot" as never wanted to be in the position of worrying about feeding them again.

Gettingready has asked a lot of questions but if you can give answers, it would help a lot.

I'm afraid I don't entirely agree with what has been said about feeding the cheapest foods as these can actually work out more expensive in the long run as you have to feed much more.

    Hi.

No medical issues, or treatment needed.

    Yes they are neutered.

I have 6 frontlines for if and when fleas arrive.

The cats will be 5 or 6 .

No gardens here so they get through a couple of Lidl's 10kg cat litter bags @ £1.79 each.

Feed them lidl cat food (£2.39) or Felix on offer, and Go Cat. (They like As Good As It Looks - but only when on offer)

House is 2 bed terrace rented - so not allowed to sublet.

OK - but have you tried to work out how much do they cost you per week/month? From the above I can see the prices but not for how long those things last them?

And you do not mention if your benefits situation is hopefully just a temporary issue?

Bit of a long shot ... but could you ask a local shelter/rescue centre if they'd provide you with food for your cats, in exchange for you doing some voluntary work for them 1-2 days a week... with a promise to restock them with a donation once you're back in work?

That'd save them finding room for them ...

Or do you want to get rid of them anyway?

Totally sympathise with dalek's plight as I was in the same boat last year.I myself made sacrifices to feed Daisy,I eat mainly supermarket basic brands so she can have the best food I can afford,it cost's me around £7 a fortnight to feed her & a 10l bag of Asda wood based litter (£2.40) lasts her a month,I found the Lidls litter a false economy as you threw so much away, with the wood based,I'm topping up about a mug of litter a day when I remove the soiled stuff.

I don't have cats now but did many moons ago. Would your cats accept sawdust instead of cat litter? - bit messier for you but can often be acquired free from a woodmerchant/joinery business. It would mean 1 less expense

Do you live there just by yourself?

Is moving to a cheaper 1 bed place and not having to pay the extra £50 towards rent not an option?

As far as I know subletting is letting your whole house to someone else and you live elsewhere.

Taking a lodger in is not subletting.

Sorry I meant taking on a lodger, not subletting.

If OP is single (mentions single "income" ie benefits for a single person), logically no need for 2 bedrooms and extra payments....

Also - 1 bedroom place = cheaper bills etc etc

Perhaps there is something I do not understand but just trying to think from financial point of view

Sorry GR, I was answering Daleks post no. 13 where he said no subletting was allowed.

But i see your point, he wouldnt make much out of it unless he charge a lodger a lot more than the £50 a week rise in rent.
I think we are all desperate to help to be honest.

Any family who will take at least one of them Dalek.
