His rent rise is 50 per month not per week..... so taking on a lodger would make a lot of difference but being in a rented flat and posibly on HB this may not be an option.

Moving to a smaller/cheaper place - may be but..perhaps not?

If the rent rise is down to the local housing authority, then you could try going thru your local MP & getting the amount you have to pay reduced or your housing benefit increased on the grounds of hardship.
I recently had cause to do this as the amount of money the DSS were taking off me per fortnight was around 1/3rd of my fortnightly ESA payment,I now have it reduced to £20 per fortnight.

How does that work for someone in rented accommodation and in receipt of HB?

Apart from the time/problem of finding somebody.... how many people'd want to share with a bloke on the dole and his 2 cats?

Its open to people in rented accommodation, I don't know about housing benefit but I imagine the way to find out would be somewhere in that link.

What does being on the dole have to do with it? Cats aren't a particularly intrusive pet either, its not like moving in with someone who has two dogs or fifteen snakes!

Its worth a try surely if the alternative is getting rid of loved pets?

It might be open to those in rented accommodation from the Government's end, but it's not open to many people from the Landlord's end.

As I'm not the OP's landlord, I don't know if that's an issue.

However, its worth asking and looking into surely?

Do you have any advice or suggestions yourself or are you just here to be irritating as usual?

As the OP is on HB, and her landlord forbids subletting it's highly unlikely that it will be of any use to the OP. Perhaps if you'd have read the thread you'd be able to give helpful advice, rather than just posting a link and forcing other posters (who have read the thread) to point out how unhelpful your abrupt link is.:)
