The BBC TV Licence & Censorship Here

This is basically as the title says. I've seen a few threads related to the BBC TV Licence here which have been closed as predicted because certain pro BBC people refuse to allow the BBC to be criticised.

Now I have pointed this out to the mods and shown examples but rather than "moderate" they've just locked the threads.

I have pointed out clear examples of off-topic attacks by certain pro BBC people which have been ignored because it carries on. Only yesterday one thread lost a days postings (on topic and off-topic attacks) and was then closed.

I would like to know if the biased off-topic attacks are going to be allowed to continue under the new ownership because I have lost faith in the current moderation team.

I've been moderating/administrating my owns sites and others since 96 and the laziness in moderation here is shocking to say the least. I've even had one admin (wont mention her name) say I should just put the troll(s) on ignore so they can continue to attack me but the moderation team don't have to do anymore!

(That is documented here if the mods wish to deny it)

I remind the mods once more I do not look for these pro BBC trolls they always follow me with off-topic attacks with all guns blazing and I think its about time you either done something or admit something isn't right!

Trouble is there are no moderators on this site so your argument falls down at that point.

The reason that threads are locked is so that they can be reviewed by the abuse team and it is then up to them whether the threads are re-opened or deleted, in certain circumstances the thread will be edited and obvious abuse and troll posts will be removed and the thread re-instated if the abuse team thinks it has merit or relevance to a current media story.
  • No they’ve got away with this countless times now so no there won’t be any consequences for their actions. Their aim is clear enough, to get any criticism of the BBC locked down and the “moderation” seem happy to oblige them.

One of these trolls even done a whois of me to add to his attack and another one brought up another discussion from a previous thread he managed to get locked. They know how to put these off-topic attacks together and the “moderation” team fall for it, ignore it or have another motive…………….

The deletions included my one and only post, which was nothing more than me questioning a statement, saying that LF evasion could lead to a jail term.
  • To add to this discussion it is clear to any reasonable person that any mention of the bbc and its justification of its licencing methods is immediately locked down by it's supporters on this supposedly neutral site
As a money saving forum you would think advice would be offered on the legal ways to advoid funding the bbc and saving £145 a year

I've been thinking of ways to do it. The only way I can think of is saying you don't support the Labour Party (which I don't and never will). The BBC is biased towards the Labour Party, this has been admitted by either the present DG or his predecessor and you can tell by how they cover certain news items.

I personally think Sky and ITN give a more balanced view.

It would be Paranoia if it wasn't happening however as others have stated it is!

If you were involved in the discussion you'd know this. All I'm asking for is some moderation rather than lazy deletions and then thread locking but thanks for your unconstructive reply

Frankly if you want a moderated forum, either find one or start one. The forum team here don't have the time or the resources to do anything other than a quick job based on what they see.

If the "team" can't moderate the forum then something is clearly wrong. Now can we stay on topic?

This was posted on a different thread, and as such i havent the link to the original post, but i think it explains just why some threads are locked, at the end of the day these are private forums boards.....

The non-MoneySaving boards are add-ons, non-core, here for fun, to build community. I hope people enjoy them. Yet even though in percentage of users they are very small, the resource drain from them is huge - often 50% of all abuse complaints.

So what do i say to the forum team. "We can't afford to spend too much time. If you have to delete or lock threads on a cursory glance, and focus resources on MoneySaving boards, which provide benefit to many more people and life changing information to many."

Then i come to the forums (again) and ask everyone to calm down. And yet then more revolt about the rules.

Let me make it plain I cannot afford to give you the moderation you need. I cannot justify deleting. This isn't a democracy. It is a private forum. I've made it plain these aren't free speech boards. I can't afford the legal bills if they were. This is about helping people save money.

If you dont like the way the Arms and DT are moderated, then i would ask you don't visit. I cannot afford it and i never want to charge.

Even at current rates these forums are costing a nearly 6 figure sum a year to run. No one is charged. There is no advertising. Do you know how bloody disheatening it is to be continually questioned this way. Just what do you expect

    And a practical point

Let's say someone writes "all gypsies are !!!!! scumbags" not a pleasand thing to say (and we see worse things written). Someone complains that this is racist. Is it? I dont care I dont want it on the forums. Yet someone then complains this is a racist comment. Do we then say the post was deleted because of a racist comment? And then leave the site opened to be sued for libel by accusing someone of being a racist?

    Or someone of being dishonest?
    Or someone of lying?
    Or someone of being abusive?
Or someone of being a stalker?
Or someone of being a bully?
Or someone of not knowing what they are talking about?
Or someone of wantenly causing disruption?

The list could go on. The first is a mere example of the type of thing we get here. Sometimes worse than the original example. So the rules are simple, when a post is deleted we dont start throwing accusations out or delineate why in these boards, they are just deleted.

If we start explaining it puts the site at risk. Worse than that it ends up continuing the discussion all over again so the problem hasn't gone away.

    To summarise

We do the best we can on limited resources
Things are deleted because the resources arent focussed on these boards
Explanations arent given to protect the site and to stop reoccurence of the same issues
I hope these boards are fun, i hope you enjoy them, if you don't and find the way they are run difficult, then i would ask you not to read or post in them anymore.
