It is the way we'd all wish to go ourselves, quickly after a long life, but it's hard for those left behind.

That's so true. I'm very glad that it was easy for her. She has lived with chronic, serious pain for years and now that has all gone. I wouldn't have wanted her to have gone through a difficult death as well.

    That's a lovely sentiment.

Sorry to hear this Mojisola. Wishing you and your family all the strength you need to get through the coming weeks.

Have you read this poem? It was read out at a funeral I went to. The girl who had died had picked it herself.
“You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.”

The poem expresses good sentiments but I think it takes a bit of time to get to that stage. Initially, it's the loss and pain that takes over. It takes some time to get a different perspective on it.

My Mum's left a wonderful legacy in the way she lived her life and the things she taught all of us - children and grandchildren. She and Dad were always the first to step up and help other people and there are lots of people mourning her loss because they remember times when she was there for them when they really needed a friend.
