My lovely Mum died suddenly on Friday. Today would have been her birthday.
I'm in a kind of half-world at the moment - it's hard to take in that it's happened. I feel as if I'll wake up soon and everything will be back to normal.
Mum and Dad have been boyfriend/girlfriend and husband and wife for over 75 years. His world has fallen apart.

My sincere condolences. I lost my mum one year ago and I'm still getting used to her not being there.
Look after yourself, your mum would want you to be strong for her.
Edited to add my deepest sympathies for your dad too. Stick together and remember the wonderful life you both had with your mum.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

It's a very weird feeling, isn't it? Most of life is trundling on - we still have to get up, eat, go shopping, etc, but there's this huge gap that's empty.
Both my parents are elderly and we have talked about the inevitable but the emotions that hit when it actually happens are still so strong.
Her brother died a couple of years ago from cancer and we had time to talk things through after everyone knew his end was near and his death was easier on us - though not on him.
For Mum, it was just a normal day and one minute she was there, the next she was gone.0 -
I really don't know what's best - to go quickly or to have a more lingering but painful goodbye. There is no best. It's all cr*p. x
Just be there for your Dad. He's going to feel lost. Not that you're not, but I think it's different for someone that's been together with someone for so long.0
