No it isnt, mostly smokers now are a lot more considerate. I personally never lit a cigarette in a restaurant or bar where other people were eating. You shouldnt generalise. I wondered how long it would be before someone came up with a pompous comment. How do you come up with the fact that is dirty, unhealthy, but not dirty.

Where on earth are you getting these mindless ideas from.
You must live among some very judgemental people if they are saying things like that, its rubbing off on you.

Sounds as if youve been brainwashed

but this is someone smoking in what is effect someones's bedroom and a very small bedroom at that, not nice

I'm confused as to why people are suggesting he should quit?!

Should everyone quit their job if one law is being broken by a colleague??

This is typical smoker attitude, that everyone else should move out of the way so they can practice their dirty habit.

In such times where people are verbally abused for being on JSA, called scroungers and jobs are very scarce; is it wise to suggest quitting??!

I am a non smoker and I hate the smell. Some cannot live without the evil weed and I guess OPs dad's co-worker is one of those.

Unfortunately the idea that people should accommodate those who break the rules is deeply ingrained into society.

It's partly a problem of different people having a bee in their bonnet about different things.

Person A gets very annoyed when they see someone dropping litter but person B thinks they are overreacting.

Person B get annoyed by people playing music on trains but person A doesn't care.

I've noticed this time and time again. Someone dismisses another's pet peeve as unimportant but can't understand why no one takes theirs seriously.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

I am a non smoker and I also used to drive trucks for a living as well.

I am with the OP's dad on this one.

I have seen no indication if the OP's dad actually has to 'overnight' in his truck, but let me tell you, there is nothing worse that having your bedding stinking of smoke after some fellow worker has smoked in your cab.

You just cannot get rid of the smell out of the upholstery and bedding, although washing the bedding does help, but as soon as you introduce your clean stuff into the cab, the smell of smoke permeates into it again.

It is irrelevant whether the residues are harmful or otherwise, it is the smell of stale smoke that is obnoxious to a non smoker and the OP's dad has a right to avoid that - moreso when the cause of it is illegal.

He has tried Febreeze it does not work

My dad lives in the lorry for 4 days and sleeps in it, smoking is illegal in a work vehicle, he should not have to put up with it IMO but we dont know who to report it to

I took post 4 to mean he slept overnight in the lorry rather than just nap in it.

If that happens he could get a nice pay out for wrongful dismissal. Someon else could have seen the bloke smoking in the van on one of the days he had it and reported it

Maybe the OP should get some friends to keep an eye out

Theres always ways of getting rid of people if you wish. If they do redundancies his name will be on the list. Even if they dont get rid of him they can mess around with his shift patterns and routes. Going external is not a sensible approach. Getting your own company fined would be an idiotic thing to do
