What you're suggesting is perfectly in line with anyone who is of a mindset not to waste good food. I'd personally use a re-usable plastic container to freeze to avoid throwing away the foil trays.
Just be mindful that anything with a high water content won't be quite the same on defrosting, might lose its structure a bit. Not really a concern for mashValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Thank you for the reply. Ive not had the freezer space to do much of this before and have always tried to cook from fresh but have decided to try to be more organised this coming year:o
I was just a bit wary with potatoes. So its simply drain and dry off the roasts then.
As far as the mash goes, I always add pepper, milk and butter when I'm mashing. For the ones I'm freezing would it be better to mash just the potatoes and then add the milk and butter when I've defrosted and re heated or does it not matter.0 -
Iv'e never frozen cooked roast potatoes, but I have read on the forum, that you shouldn't add more oil/fat when you heat them up.0

Raw potatoes don't freeze well, mashed potatoes I freeze in portions in ziploc bags and roasties I freeze in those foil trays (with extra cling to stop freezer burn).
Mash I just defrost and reheat, roast potatoes just go in the oven on about 170-180 for 40mins.I'm C, Mummy to DS 29/11/2010 and DD 02/11/2013

You can freeze potatoes raw as long as you completely coat them in oil. It stops them going black.
This is ideal for roast potatoes. Wedges, chips, fries etc
Mash I've made as normal and then frozen in ziplock bags in ready portions.Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

Recently I've been cooking a few more roasties than we need & freezing the leftovers. I just bung them on a baking tray for 20-30 mins. They taste almost as good as they did when fresh.0

I freeze mine in plastic bags that I use to line a plastic tray, so it freezes in a block shape, just remove the bag and it's in a handy shape for stacking in the freezer, this then frees up the plastic trays.
I double wrap the blocks to prevent them drying out in the freezer and label with the date I froze it.
I just defrost them in the fridge or cook from frozen.
I only freeze mash and roasted.0 -
So glad I found this thread! I will start doing this when I do dinners. Would be so good to have roasties and mash ready for dinners. Fabby!Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j
