Ok I have asked for an extension on my assignment, I just dont know how I'm going to get it done otherwise. Fingers crossed I get it! I've been doing some thinking and I am trying desperately to rack my brains as to what to do career wise. My biggest worry is choosing to do English as it is much easier in the long run as I will only have to do a couple more modules of my degree.... but.... I dont want to do it just because it is easier and would cost less money and then live to regret it and wish I was teaching food tech instead. I have several options: carry on as I am and do 2/3 more courses in english (depending on what my grade comes out as depends whether I need to do 2 or 3. Costing approx £2700.

Or I can change to an open degree and do 4 courses in design technology costing £3600, and hope that it is enough to get me into a PGCE, which is the teaching training qualification.

Or I can go to a college in my home town and do a 3 year design course costing approx £24000!

It seems like theres no contest really but unfortunately it's not that simple. If I'm honest I'm not very technically minded, and the thought of doing modules in design fills me with horror, it really is not my best subject, but there is no other way of getting to teach food technology without a design degree. Bearing this in mind, I am going to need all the help I can get to even pass, so the thought of doing it distance learning is going to be extremely difficult. But on the up side, when I spoke to the unviersities about entrance for a PGCE in food tech, apparantly I need some practical experience in the field, which I could get by volunteering in a school, like I did today, whilst I finish my degree, where as I wont have the time to do that if I go for a full time degree i dont think. But with a full time degree I will get all the help I need to pass it. But i really don't want to be £25k in debt in my thirties and I'm going to have to somehow find a child minder and the money to pay for it and petrol money to drive all the way to my home town every day...... and breath

    Gosh it's hard.

If the full time course was cheaper there would be no contest as it is obviously the way to go........ But it's not and we don't qualify for any grants of any kind.....

The second option of doing an open degree is the cheapest and may be the best option, but I can't guarantee I am going to pass the course, without the help of a tutor, which one I can't find and two they are so expensive!

But then again looking at the full time course, I would obviously have to get a student loan, which I think at the most I would only pay about £100max back a month on teachers wages, which isn't too bad... and I would have a lot more chance of passing the course...... because lets face it if I can't come out with a reasonable degree I can't teach with it anyway.

I've just emailed my home town uni, to find out how many hours the full time course is, to find out whether I would then have the time to volunteer to work in a school in my time off to get the practical experience I need for my PGCE, and whether it would fit in with MIL looking after Roo, and of course the new baby too!

hmmmm definitely a lot to think about. I'm sorry for writing this all down here but I really needed to write it down to help me understand my options. I would really appreciate your opinions too.

    Speak soon

Gosh missy you do have a lot to think about! I don't envy you and can't really offer much advice on that front but hope you get it sorted soon :)

As for Roos dinner times, my bubs throws his food on the floor too think all baby's do it lol, some ideas of what I give mine,

    Beans on toast
    Cheese on toast
    Scrambled egg
    Pasta and sauce
Jacket potato and beans, cheese and beans, tuna and cheese
    Chunky soup?

Not sure if that helps you or not? We tend to just rotate these meals so he doesn't get to bored

    Have a good day xx

    Hope you're enjoying cbeebies! ;)

Sounds like your head was spinning yesterday with what options to do career wise. Don't rush it (if that's possible?!) take time to be sure what you want to do is right for you longer term.

Fab news on assignment extension - i'm sure you'll get the grade you want in it!

Happy sorting today! Reminded me I have loads to do and no time this week to do it....rubbish!!!

    Choc xx

well I've managed to sort out the messiest cupboard in the kitchen, with Roos help, this involved him taking things out as I was putting them in!! And I've put a wash load on and actually managed some breakfast. Roo is now asleep so I'm trying to think of how best to spend my time, although at the moment I'd really like to sit and not do a lot and just have some thinkig time, but I doubt very much that's going to happen!

Ok have made myself a decaff mocha and am having thinks... Oh by the way sorry the thread isnt very money saving etc at the moment. I am on track sort of, but haven;t really got the time to go through everything. Everything will start with avengence in January.

My thoughts on the whole career/uni thing. Although I said i would only be paying back £100 a month etc for my student loan if I were to go full time at uni, that is still £25k, which is a hell of a lot of money. Especially as I can do a similar course with the OU which should get me to where I want to be for £21k less. Its just the whole what if I'm not clever enough to do the course.....i know I'm going to need some help, but I don't know anyone who is that way minded that could give me a hand, hence why I thought getting an extra tutor might help... but finding one and affording one is an issue. I think I need to look into the tutor side of it a bit more....

suddenly feeling really sad and rubbish..... might be because OH has just gone away and because Roo is rather grumpy and clingy. Or it might be trying to decide what to do career wise, or because I'm feeling guilty that I haven't seen my mother, but to see her stresses me out so much I can't even begin to tell you.....

Just getting back on money for the moment. I've been reading frugal queens blog and it really makes you think about spending money. I was going to buy some chocolate today just beause I had some change in my purse but I really didnt need any, so I decided not to :)

and I went through the biggest food cupboard today and had a look at the freeer and I really think we can be running the stocks down.
