I would second the threading, I don't have any hair around my upper lip (yet) but I do have my eyebrows threaded and I do with my mate who has her upperlip threaded, she swears by it

if you have an Indian area near you you will be able to get threading done in most of the salons, I pay £3 for my brows to be done

Another plucker here! I prefer this method as you can be a little more proactive and get one as soon as you see/feel it!

I've noticed too that (at 37) they seem to be getting more wiry! Some even seem to be grey - yuk! Like hogs bristles! There's no pattern to it either - just a solitary hair here and there. I'm sure (hope!) that they're not that bad or noticeable, but there's nothing worse than being out and suddenly feeling a random hair! I reckon if I'd have been a bloke I'd have been Lionel, The Dog-faced boy!

Most of the time i use hair removal cream, and pluck in and out. Occasionally i have a wax done but they charge £8.50 for an upper lip wax. I think it's a rip off, and my problem is it grows back really quick, so i need it done every 2 weeks!

If only it would disappear altogether!

I have had laser hair removal and althought it's expensive and a little bit painful, I am soooo glad I had it.
The hair on my lip and chin is virtually all gone, and will never grow back, so I think it is a great investment.

Is it painful? I would like to try this but I'm worried about having red skin afterwards and not being able to disguise it. Also, how many sessions did you need and can you give me an idea of how much you paid. Thanks

another vote for the wax strips - doesn't hurt (well, like whipping a plaster off) and lasts for ages. I once tried Immac (extra gentle for faces - honest) and it burnt all my skin off. Looked like elephant man's ugly sister for weeks!

I use nair, i have to use it every other day though! Ive tried veet and have to use this the same amount as well! Im not sure if these products are just no good for me or because i have PCOS. I think its most likely the PCOS.

I to though have been looking into laser treatment as its something that really gets me down :(

Electrolysis on chin and upper lip. It really really hurts on the upper lip though!

Someone mentioned transsexual men in an earlier post. AFAIK the drugs they take don't effect their hair growth, and they have to have it all taken off using electrolysis or laser treatment. Hurts more than the actual surgery, so I've heard!!

Cold wax strips followed by aloe vera gel.

Your gp should be able to prescribe a cream called vaniqua. You remove the hair as usual (waxing or epilating are best) and apply the cream once or twice a day (depending on growth) and the hairs grow back slower and finer. You need to use it for a few months. Some women report that the hair stops growing after about 6 mths, that hasn't been my experience but the hair is finer and softer so it's well worth doing.

  • i started sprouting hair on my chin after the birth of my second baby and horrid course hairs on the corners of my "tach", they were so noticeable as i'm asian and it was very course black hair. i used to get them threaded but i was having to go and get them removed every 2 weeks and it was just doing my head in so the lady at the salon recommended electrolysis. I can happily say that after 2 treatments the hairs on my chinny chin chin have disappered for good and i am really chuffed with the effects.
I've had around 5 treatments so far on the corners of my upper lip and i can really see the difference, the hair is growing back very very fine and i'm hoping that after a couple more treatments it'll be gone for good.

It is quite painful and i end up horribly red afterwards, the redness last about 24hrs. it costs £13 for 10 mins.

I have blonde hair so don't bleach but use cold wax strips on my tache. I do have sensitive skin and i come out all red and swollen afterwards, but i do it just before bed time (luckily OH works nights so doesn't have to witness all this!!) then i smother those areas in after sun gel with aloe vera and it's nearly calmed down by the next day. I have to wear make up for a day or 2 to cover up the redness and sometimes it does bring me out in little spots, but that seems to be if i re-do the same area twice.I do my eyebrows at the same time and get it all over and done with!
I have more trouble with hairy nipples (sorry if TMI) really dark and course hairs, about 5 around each nipple. I just trim those, far too scared to pluck or anything around there!!
