The newer ones don't compare to the original ones from the 90's, I promise you. Much less painful.
I like mine a lot - it's saved me a fortune in leg waxing (previous method I preferred) during the last 3 years. I can't use it under my arms and the bikini line area is quite painful.

Mine's a Philips one. Can't see the name of it but it's purple and lilac coloured. I'll find out exactly which model it is and update.

ETA- it looks like mine is now discontinued but this seems to be the updated version of it

There's loads of reviews on Amazon (which is where I got mine from) for different brands

I bought one of these as a "entry" level type thing. Paid a little more than £15 though. And used my nectar points for it as well!

I thought it was well worth the money when I HAD the money.
Since I've not had the money, it's not something I can budget for and justify.
As soon as I can afford it again, I'll be back at the salon every 4-6 weeks getting my legs and bikini line waxed. Home waxing never worked well for me, unfortunately.

I have regular Hollywood/leg/underarm waxing every 6 weeks and for me it has really worked and in some places the hair doesn't grow back anymore. It is just so much better for me than shaving. I highly recommend it.:j

I only bother with waxing (half-leg, pits & bikini) before holidays each year and, yes, I'd say it was worth it for knowing I am staying hair-free for those two weeks! The rest of the year, it's the ol' ladyshave ...

I was surprised how little it hurt me, perhaps I have a good pain threshold (might come in useful in November) or I just had a good beautician!

Been waxing since about 2002 and I couldn't ever go back to shaving again. Ever!

I get a fully hollywood, eyebrows, half legs and underarms done for 53.00 every 6 weeks however i need to normally do underarms every 3 weeks depending if I notice :p

When you've been waxing as long as I have the hair comes back so so fair you don't notice it until it time to wax again and you notice how long the fine hair are

For your holiday I'd go for it because it a very practical. There is pain however if your salon is good they will keep it to a min. You might feel some dull throbbing afterward but a cooling cream will help that.

Make sure you do aftercare as ingrowing hairs on your Bikini is not a good look. Exfoilate the area 2 days after you've been waxed and keep that up all the time.

There is nothing like the boost it gives you feel Xtremely smooth legs that are totally touchable for at least 2 weeks without having to do anything again!! ermmm...same for the hollywood but that another story ;)

I have this one and absolutely love it:
    http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10052&productId=55164&callingViewName=&langId=-1&catalogId=11051

I got it when it was half price and it has more than paid itself back now i no longer have to buy razors or blades. The ice pack attachment is great for the first few uses as it does help with the pain, but after thats its been pretty much pain free for me so i don't use it any more. I use it once a week on my legs and underarms, and the hair has definitely grown back lighter and less often.

The underarms are by far the most painful part initially, i was literally in tears the first few times and had to get my OH to finish epilating my underarm the second time. I have very sensitive underarms (react badly to a lot of deodorants) so maybe this was why it was so bad for me. I perservered though and by the fourth or fifth time of using it on my underarms the pain had gone. I'm so glad i kept at it as this is where i've seen the biggest reduction in hair growth and i no longer get that horrible stubble regrowth that you get with shaving.

The only time i don't use it is when i'm going on hols as i like to go and get a full wax then, including my bikini line which i don't use the epilator on.
