    Use it everywhere??

I made the mistake of using it on my armpits............... I spent two days with no bra on (cos it rubbed) and copious amounts of sudocrem smeared all over them. And it hurt - why I didn't stop at the start when it flippin hurt. It was like a childs mentality - you know when they carry on anyway? That was me!

Anyway. Moral of the story. Don't use it on your armpits........ LOL!
  • Think there was another thread on waxing a couple of weeks ago...
For me it's well worth the money (and small amount of pain!). I have my legs, bikini & eyebrows waxed every 4 weeks. Unfortunately I have very coarse hair, which would require shaving every couple of days! The waxing leaves my legs smooth for a good 2 weeks, so should last for your holidays.
For me, the pain lasts for only a second or so after each strip is removed, and it's not unbearable, and the results are soooo worth it!:D

Well. First of all leg waxing is not really painful if you have it done professionally, the first time I had it done I was dreading the pain, but actually it was little more than a slight twinge. Bikini waxing is a bit painful, but over quite quickly. If you have sensitive skin it's also much better than shaving or depilatory creams - I have never come out in a rash from a professional wax and my skin is super sensitive.

Also it needn't be hugely expensive - a full leg and bikini was at a salon will only set you back about £20-30, and you can get it done much cheaper than that if you go to a student (phone your local FE college, most of them have beauty departments open to the public).

having said that, don't expect waxing to be the answer to your hair removal prayers - there's a few things I learned after starting waxing that no-one really told me beforehand:

    1. It doesn't last as long as you might think. I thought that a wax would leave me completely hair free for a month or so - it was actually more like a week before enough hair was coming through that I had to go back to wearing trousers. Obviously if you're only on holiday for a week, that won't matter. From chatting to friends though, if you're blonde, or not that hairy to start with, you'll probably find it lasts longer (I have the kind of hair growth that means I have to shave my legs daily if I don't wax - I start to get regrowth a few hours after shaving!) - also hair growth reduces over time so you get more hair free time - though that's not much use to you in the immediate future!

    2. the hair has to be a certain length before you can wax again - this means that you have around two weeks of trouser wearing in the lead up to the next wax - when the hairs are long enough to be noticable, but too short to wax. effectively this means that waxing leaves you hairy for a greater percentage of the time than it leaves you hair free. Although, again, if you only want it for the holiday, this doesn't really matter, because you can just go back to shaving when you come back.

    3. Home waxing kits don't work! Seriously - this might just be me because I know people who swear by them, but for me they just don't remove the hair effectively, and leave me with a horrible sore rash.

    4. Not all beauticians that do waxing will do a bikini wax. And those that do will often only do a "tidy up" - if you want a Brazilian or anything like that, make sure you go to a waxing specialist rather than a standard beauty salon.

I think if you just want to be silky smooth for your holiday, it's definetly worth the money, and the slight discomfort - but it's not something I'd advise switching to as a regular thing.

I have had a few over the years but currently using an amazing one from argos. It has 2 epilating heads for double the hair removal so it waaay quicker than any of the other ones I have used. It has a cap with a strip removed so you can use it on smaller areas although I can't remember if it is suitable for the face. It can def be used on the bikini line though. See link below -

I would say yes, I'm not too keen on waxing my legs as the amount of time required for it to grow back before waxing again is annoying and despite having long legs I don't mind running a razor over them in the shower in the morning.

Bikini waxing for me is the only way to go, having spent years with creams and shaving that never seemed to last not even for a week, (bikini stubble is not a good look!) I had my bikini line professionally waxed for a holiday and it was great, not having to worry about it for the duration of the holiday. I have discovered though that it takes a good few days for my skin to settle down so I need to wax a few days before going away to avoid looking like a plucked chicken. Now having had a couple of professional waxes and seeing how its done, I do it myself. The poster above is correct most home wax kits are useless, especially the sticky strips, I use nair microwave wax and have had excellent results. I like the fact that doing it myself I can 'shape' that area myself!

I tried one on my legs, only did one sweep and I was doubled up! Ouch.

Do they all hurt a lot?

I have been toying with the idea of an apilator for ages so would love to know if they have got better (had a Braun one back in the mid 90's and only used it once because OMG it hurt!)

Am thinking that this might be a better alternative to waxing for me as that just takes forever and doesnt seem to do that well on my fine but dark leg hair.

Are the ones with Cooling gel any good?

Its something I have gotten used to over a few uses.(legs, not anywhere else!). I bend my legs at the knees, so it stretches everything and its not so bad then.

The best bit is that the bits that grow back and downy, lighter and softer too. (says she who is now rubbing bits that I missed in the rush yesterday!)
