Water, gas, electricity and council tax bills don't report to CRAs, so it will not be that. It's possible the applications for a joint account will have created a link - again, it is in your interest to ensure this link is removed. He doesn't know what's on his credit report... [snip] Other than that, there's nothing worse than a few debt collectors.
While I don't mean this to be harsh on you: bullsh*t. One could have defaulted on damn near everything and still be accepted for a basic bank account. If you can provide identification and proof of your address, even the electoral roll doesn't matter so much for a BBA. There is going to be something else.
I repeat: he needs to find out what's on his credit reports, and until he does he will not know there's "nothing worse than a few debt collectors".
Unless he does know, and he doesn't want to tell you. Not wishing to cast aspersions here, but it's a possibility.urs sinserly,

What may seem to have been cleared up may not have been, errors can be made on credit reference files. You have to check to know for sure.0 -

They'll find you at some point if there not dealt with.
Maybe worth filing for bankruptcy and starting again with a clean slate.
Take advice from the CAB or National Debt Helpline (its a free phone number).0 -
Bankruptcy will have major repercussions for 6 years minimum with future credit.
Also if you want a mortgage they'll ask a question about this using the words "Have you ever been bankrupt or entered into an arrangement with creditors"
You're forced to answer Yes, or risk a CIFAS marker, for the rest of your life, effectively stopping you from getting anything but sub prime mortgage lending in future.
It should be your very last resort.0 -

watermelon88, one debt collector is serious enough, "a few" is really bad!
Please go to your local CAB, with him, to discuss the realistic options he / you have.0 -

Debts are defaulted on. So this might be a necessity.0 -
When he went for the basic bank account they tried to process his application but they said there was already an application in his name on the system within the last few months, so they said it would have to be approved by a panel or something (can't remember the exact wording they used), and then it was rejected (i think based on his credit check, which they shouldn't have even done for that account).
The guy at the bank said chances are if he reapplies once the other application has gone from the system then it would be approved with no issues.
He's not hiding anything, I went through all his paperwork, which he kept for the last five or six years, and I have spoken with most of the places he owes money and seen all the letters that get delivered here. That and the fact that I trust him, he's got no reason to lie.
Whatever it is, if it's not just because of the debts he ran up, he doesn't know about it.Total Weight Loss Progress = -17lbs

Has he tried anywhere else?
While they don't usually do credit checks, they do do identity and fraud prevention checks, which are also done with CRAs.urs sinserly,

That may well be the case, if they cannot pay back the debt and it's always possible that the creditors may petition for bankruptcy anyway.
Even if it is necessary to file yourself then before doing so you should always seek proper professional advice from a licensed insolvency practitioner before entering into such proceedings.0 -
