In my attempts to tidy up - I have created more mess but at least I know what pile is going where. I was told by mother today that the house is a mess...erm there is not much to be in a mess because I have very little furniture (still not made space for furniture from ex) and I don't see the point in getting said furniture until the room has been decorated. I vac and dust every week - there is no point in doing it every single day. Mum is upset that I don't seem to be happy and she is regretting buying the house - I am happy or trying to be happy but her standards are just too high and I would like to be left in peace for a while instead of feeling as though I must constantly be on the go..sigh.

@robsmum - I have the decorating to look forward too along with the curtain buying - that is even more stressful.

Sorry you are feeling glum Horace and wet fish round the head for your mum, aren't relatives great! Just do it in your time and to your schedule and as and when you need and try and smile sweetly then ignore her.

Still decluttering children's stuff - although am tempted to declutter them somewhere today and not necessarily get them back :rotfl:

Work situation may change dramatically when we go back so trying to plan ahead more than usual.

Horace: Big hugs to you! Try not to let your Mum's standards get you down. Moving ans settling in are very high on the stress factor, so just grit your teeth and take your time.

The curtain research proved very stressful I sadly have expensive taste and not the budget to match.

We have agreed on the carpetting(the most expensive) and the paint colours(big bargain there), just waiting for a date for them starting the kitchen and heating then yours truely can start painting.

Check out Homebase - their sale is very good at the moment.

Yay, the bedroom floor is now clear of stuff and things have been sorted (admittedly some clothes are still on the bed), I have two bin liners full of old clothes including a mass of socks. I have used my last scented drawer liner and lined the bottom drawer of the free chest that I found in the walk in wardrobe and shoved my tights and sock collection in it...the other drawers have been lined with old christmas paper and have jumpers in them.

Mum rang me this morning offering to help me clear up and clear out but I declined as I have broken the back of it now. She asked me if there was a problem with my landline as she had tried to call but got no answer so she rang my mobile - I said that I was out shopping which I was. My kitchen is looking less cluttered as I now have some towel rails for my teatowel and my towel. Previously these were either dumped on the side or draped over the handles of my cooker. As I was in Ald* this morning I spotted some over door towel rails made for cupboard doors and the bonus about them is that they extend so now I have two and have put them on the doors by the sink.

I have some decluttering left to do - I need to do the back bedroom but I have done a lot of that already so there isnt really that much to do. I have set aside 3 days to get it sorted out.

@robsmum - don't get me started on curtains, we found some nice material in D*nelm but now we have changed our minds again about the colour scheme as before I quite fancied lime green, then it veered towards something else and now it is veering towards teal. Maybe I will have curtains that a neutral with splashes of teal and lime green in them.

Fingers crossed that exam results everywhere are good.

Doing car insurance renewal on the hottest day of the year, not really my idea of fun but then again it is too hot to sit out (currently 33 here!) as I have red hair and fair skin.

We have a new kitten, who is sitting on my lap making typing a bit difficult too.

Good luck to all of you decorating and to those of you just enjoying the weekend x

Is it hot? I am currently praying that it doesnt rain as I have bed linen on the line.

Yesterday I did naff all - I sat on the sofa and read a book, it is most unlike me to be so lazy. I have done two loads of washing today, listed my 5 empty packing cases onto freegle. At least now the side lobby looks less messy because on Thursday I sorted out the shed and moved my old freezer to make space for stuff. I have also been squirrel chasing today - I hate the pesky things as they spend time digging holes in my lawn, I think they come avisiting because my next door neighbours either side of me feed them thus encouraging the little blighters:mad:

I spoke to my ex oh last night who reminded me that I need to sort out the decree absolute. I also need to contact him in 4 weeks to arrange to collect some of my stuff including clothes - I have some vintage clothes which I can sell although I did tell him to dump them. He is keeping a hold of my furniture for the time being until I have space for it as he doesnt want me to store it in a damp shed. I have to wait 4 weeks because he is busy with his charity work and is away most weekends and as he locked me out I cannot go in and help myself to my things. Once I get the decree absolute I can then get the rest of the money he owes me and I can clear my remaining debt and start living again (living not spending).

Have a good weekend folks...wishing it was hot here but instead I am sort of warm and sort of wet:(

I hate squirrels too H! Living with a forester who regards them as vermin I'm afraid they get no luck here! TBH we rarely see them as we live fairly high up above sea level and the terrain doesnt really suit them but in recent years we have noticed them more - due to garden bird feeding I think. Our cats are fairly adept at chasing them away!
