How about clinical trials (aka medical trials/ drug trials). I'm signed up for one right now, taking place before long, worth about £2k. It seems you can do one every 3 months (not more frequently as it affects the results). However obviously I am not expecting it to be very pleasant.
Indeed the risk side also worries me - what if it does something permanent to your organs or body, from having the test drugs put it in to you. Most 'Phase 1' clinical trials (and the ones available are nearly all what's called 'Phase 1'...) aren't drugs that have been tested on humans before. The doctors need guinea pigs, and though these things are administered by the medical council to check they can't just put *anything* into you, they just don't know what the drugs will do to humans (prior testing only done on animals etc). So for all the talk of them being safe, they just don't *know*.
If the Phase 1 trial has been done on humans before (sometimes - occasionally - this is the case), you can get the results and see what happened to people last time, but obviously most people don't bother to do that. The doctors need guinea pigs so they themselves aren't really going to be highlighting 'real' dangers when you ask them (if you get the chance) about the dangers of doing their test (eg at a screening if there's a chance to ask them then), they're going to sound non-committal.
Would there be discussions on mse about this I wonder (sorry to sound ignorant). It's a lot of money that can be earned but the risks need very carefully looking at /assessing...and most people (like me despite my cautious nature) will be swayed by the payment, when in debt etc...0 -

Interesting idea, but as you say, the risks need to be carefully considered.
There was a case a few years ago where a drug trial caused catastrophic side effects for those involved.
I personally would never undergo any type of clinical drug trial, though I might consider a sleep study or some other non-drug trial.R.I.P. Bart. The best cat there ever was. :sad:0 -
