I also thought about making things to sell, not sure if this will work out.
Hello and welcome to this wonderful, inspiring thread. You are now part of one big happy family (as are all the other newbies)
This is how I have made most of my 175% (£4500) I have raised since joining this thread near to the beginning so if you need any help then please ask. Lots of us on here make things to try and sell and I'm sure one of us will be able to offer a bit of advice xxMortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
Hi to all of you making & selling crafty things. I fancy having a go at making something to sell, any chance any of you can tell us what type of things sell well at craft fairs or on eBay? Or would this be classed as giving away trade secrets!?!'1% at a time' Member - #197

Hello Rushy, I was at a craft fair the other day, I'll give you a run down of the types of stalls I saw there and which seemed popular.
The stalls that seemed the most busy were selling things at a lower price range e.g items under £15. I guess it makes it easier for people to part with this type of amount as it's an impulse purchase.
Very popular
Sweet stall (in old fashioned jars, decorated hampers)
Art prints (selling simple black & red art prints of varying sizes)
Brownies, cookies & home made cakes
Jewellery stall (however there were about 5 different stands - lots of competition)
Purses
Face painting, temporary tattoos, hair braiding
Others
Clothes, bags & scarves
Paintballing & glider "adventure" days
Wooden jewellery boxes & ornaments
Plants
Toys
Notebooks
Candles, soaps & 'smellies'
Cards
A good place to check for unusual ideas is Etsy.com & notonthehighstreet.com
Also another way of finding things that sell, is to look at ebay powersellers with 10k+ feedback & their completed listings - whatever keeps on selling. See if you can put a spin on any of those things, either personalisation or a handmade version of something that sells well.
Hope that helps!
P.S It's amazing to see so many new folks joining!

Hi All
I managed to pay off £277.38 to my first debt which is 4.5% so I will get hunting for an extra £30 to bring me up to 5%.
I get paid next week so hopefully will be able to pay a bit more off my dents and start 2013 with a small (but nice) dent in my debts.

Oooh i may be able to summon up an extra % after all. Sold something on Ebay for £60 and 3 other things at £5 each so once postage and fees are paid ill prob have £60 left to transfer over. BUT i won a competition on here from months ago :j and got 2 fisherprice toys through the post today, i researched the prices and listed them on 4 local FB selling pages slightly cheaper and again so, if someone took both. Fingers crossed ill get the £10 or £12 total for them before Xmas and that will put us over £65 which is my 1% for debt 1
First thing i have won in years though so might give the competitions another bash!
Oh and not listing anything on Ebay now until after New year. Going to focus on FB for now. got 6 things ending this weekend and that will be that!

13% paid off today, overtime from work. I think it might dry up from this month onwards but at least I've got most of it sorted

Hi, update time from me!
I'm stuck on 7% for now - only had 2 things sell on ebay this week for £17 and that's it for this year until the next free listing weekend again.
I was very good with the christmas shopping - stuck to the lists, used points, used savings stamps and spent £28 in total on usuals, christmas pop and food and some winter stocks - bread flour and so on. Pleased with this and I'll be carrying on with the savings stamps again for next year as that was a big help this year even though I saved £25 of stamps, not £100 as I don't need that much.
I'll be back on track in 2013 as next year is the aim of a big pay off to increase the 1% totals. I've gone from 0% to 7% in 2 mths so I'm hoping if I keep my focus I can tackle a higher 1% over next year.
This thread has helped me so much, my spare room is much less cluttered, the stuff I bought when I was really fedup has gone to new homes and a lot has been paid off the cards. I've set up a new savings pot for car tax, repairs, service and MOT which is nothing I have done before. It feels nice to be prepared for a change and not scrabble around for all the money like I've done for many years.
Just need to keep the focus and keep looking at my notepad with my notes and plans in to keep me on track. I really want to bring my credit card DFD closer some more too which can only be done by overpaying. Hopefully when one card is paid off by April next year I can increase the repayments to the others and bring the date closer again
Good luck everyone with all your precentages - let's keep at it and get there!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

Hello all!
Hope everyone is well, Christmas present buying is taking its toll :S
Trying to be frugal but it's so very hard! Have definitely scaled back from other years & keeping track of my spending with a hawk eye has really helped!
Maybe it just feels harder this year because I know how much difference every £10, £5, £1 makes to my total!
Think I will try one last selling blitz on Ebay (there's still time for pre-Christmas delivery) and a car boot next weekend for random bits and pieces.
Have a great weekend everyone!0 -
Morning all - may I join please. My debt is HUGE but I really like the concept of paying it off one baby step at a time so I will concentrate on one debt at a time - if I may.
Debt 1 - Overdraft - £1800 - so 1% is £18 which seems much more manageable. I am going to use the christmas period to start thinking about how I am going to manage this but have already started a list:-
1. Cut back on the grocery budget - limit post christmas spending until pay day in January to just fruit and veg.
2. List some homemade items on etsy - this would be a first for me.
3. Sell on ebay.
Will have to think a little harder though.
Wish me luck!44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)
2. Lose 12 lbs (4.5/ 12)
3. Use YNAB everyday (6/44)0
