    Hi All,

Have been lurking for about 2 months now, doing it on my own, but struggling a bit, so decided that if it's ok with you lot, add me to the list, especially as LMUD would like to hit 200.

I'm trying to save for our first family holiday abroad for 6 years!

    Newbie request
    My total is £2500 , so 1% is £25.

Currently doing well at 41% although I've now sold most things in the house :rotfl:so thinking it will slow down a lot now!

For those interested the money saved so far came from:
    £30 Tax rebate
£50 Timpo soldiers (about to give away the day I stumbled across this thread)
£700 Motorbike (not ridden for 5 years since having kids)
£50 Vintage Action Man items from loft
£200 Mamod Steam Train from loft I got 30yrs ago (not used for 25yrs)
Plus a few other bits & bobs on e-Bay.

Well done to everyone so far :T, & I'll try and stay active now (no more lurking)

    Cheers

    Hi all,
I have been following this thread for a while, but haven't joined as I thought my predicament was not really relevant! But today I have decided to post, as you all sound like such a lovely, friendly and genuinely helpful group, that I thought perhaps you may have some suggestions to offer me.

I am not actually in debt (yet), but to be honest, it is only a matter of time! Last week both my husband and I were made redundant (great xmas cheer!). We both worked at the same company, and they are closing. Unfortunately, we had only been there for a year, so our redundancy pay is almost non existent (although everyone we know seems to assume that "redundancy equals massive payout"!). So we find ourselves both unemployed, and in a complete panic. There are no jobs available in our local area, and we only qualify for basic jobseekers allowance (no kids - probably a blessing!).

I can't really give a percentage figure, as it would probably scare me half to death, but my question is this - does anyone have any ideas for a small business of some sort, that two pretty handy and savvy 40 somethings could start from home?? Or indeed any money making ventures that we could consider. Right at this moment we probably need to make at least £800 per month just to SCRAPE by, and live the most minimal existence possible. Any ideas ???

I appreciate that this is totally off topic for this thread, but any suggestions would be wonderful. Sorry that this has been so long winded - I just really don't know where to turn or where to begin - 2013 is looking so scary. :(

Sorry I can't be of much help, although I would love to know all about starting a small business to get some extra income!

The only thing I can suggest (other than the many great ideas on LUMD's first post in this thread for making extra cash) is Ebay - Whilst working out what you are going to do longer term, short term Ebay is a good way of making money - lots of people pick up free stuff from Gumtree/Freegle and sell them on Ebay or get stuff cheaply from Boot Sales and resell. Yes, it's not a guaranteed income, but I've just started it, am a complete beginner, yet I've made £150 in a week (and that's just doing it during the evenings after I get home from work with 99p items).

99p starting items are also completely free to list so if the thing doesn't sell you don't lose any money. You can do 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 day listings.

Ebay currently have a 100 item a month sell limit but if you list yourself as a small business that goes up so you can sell more.

You might have already tried Ebay and hated it, but I thought I would make a suggestion to try and be helpful :)

There is a whole thread somewhere on here about Making money off Ebay so if it's something you want to do I suggest you read that!

yayyy I have a number now. Think I will try to get to 55% by NYE. That will take me to £2200. Any more will be a bonus :)
What will everyone else be doing to increase their percentages at such a hard time of year?
