    Just de-lurking to say:

Ebay postage and packing - I made a couple of mistakes at first too and ended up paying people to take stuff! Luckily only small amounts but still  I would rather have given it to a charity than given it to Ebay!

Yes I've made one big mistake where I ended up effectively paying the guy 98p  and another on one of todays items where because I got the postage slightly wrong (thought it would be a large letter but it turned out to be a packet) I ended up making only 48p on that item :(

All in all though I've not done too badly, the 99p items that sold for 99p I ensured I charged at least £1 postage so I managed to make about a quid an item from those as they are free to list. I've made about £100.

Just got a phone call from a cash for gold place - they are offering me £156 for the broken chains I sent them yesterday - and I will get 40 quid QuidCo cashback so just made myself another £200 :T Won't report on that % til the money is in my account though.

  • Hi all,
I have been following this thread for a while, but haven't joined as I thought my predicament was not really relevant! But today I have decided to post, as you all sound like such a lovely, friendly and genuinely helpful group, that I thought perhaps you may have some suggestions to offer me.

I am not actually in debt (yet), but to be honest, it is only a matter of time! Last week both my husband and I were made redundant (great xmas cheer!). We both worked at the same company, and they are closing. Unfortunately, we had only been there for a year, so our redundancy pay is almost non existent (although everyone we know seems to assume that "redundancy equals massive payout"!). So we find ourselves both unemployed, and in a complete panic. There are no jobs available in our local area, and we only qualify for basic jobseekers allowance (no kids - probably a blessing!).

I can't really give a percentage figure, as it would probably scare me half to death, but my question is this - does anyone have any ideas for a small business of some sort, that two pretty handy and savvy 40 somethings could start from home?? Or indeed any money making ventures that we could consider. Right at this moment we probably need to make at least £800 per month just to SCRAPE by, and live the most minimal existence possible. Any ideas ???

I appreciate that this is totally off topic for this thread, but any suggestions would be wonderful. Sorry that this has been so long winded - I just really don't know where to turn or where to begin - 2013 is looking so scary. :(
  • I am not sure what I did to be entirely honest, but I am sure it is entirely my own fault!

I have just ordered quite cheaply from ebay one of those royal mail letter size perspex templates so I will use that in future, and I will make sure I properly weigh the item - my normal bathroom scales I think are what let me down this time round as I am sure they aren't designed for weighing parcels!

What do you normally use to weigh your parcels with?
I use the kitchen scales, I got a digital set from Argos so I can't even read them wrong!
    Thank you competition posters!

    CHRISTMAS UPDATE
& the official 2012 'count up'

Right guys, 2 weeks until Santa comes and sprinkles his magic everywhere! Time to get your final updates of the year in!!! I think the thread will be pretty quiet between the 25th and the New Year, so here's what I'm going to do.

I will be doing 1 more update this year, posted on New Years Eve!!! I will be doing a round up post of how much we've paid off collectively so far - we've been 'percenting' it for a whopping 6 months now! In order for me to get this done before 2013 starts please all post your most up to date total... before midnight Christmas Eve!!!

I'd like to get as many updates on there as possible and I'll be dropping the MSE Forum team & Martin a New Year's e-mail to say exactly what we've achieved, how we've all done it - and how awesome you all are for the support you've shown to each other & enthusiasm you bring.

Post as many times as you like, your most recent update will be the one I'll count!!

Also - any lurkers that would like to join and be on the list in time for Jan 1st 2013 - please also post before Christmas Eve too. It would really make my year if we got to the 200 mark before the New Year!!!

    *************************************************
If anyone is away from family this time of year and would appreciate a little virtual company or conversation over the holidays, feel free to drop me a PM, I'm always around and never too busy for friends. There's always enough Christmas cheer to go around. :)

Those of you that are celebrating with extended family & an abundance of food this year, a home cooked Christmas dinner might be very well received by a neighbour, single relative or work colleague. An extra portion of food might not cost us a lot but might mean a lot to someone else.

While we may not all be rich in the conventional way, we're often richer than we realise.

Quick MSE tip : Dig out your radiator key and bleed your radiators for a more efficiently heated home & a lower winter fuel bill. (Just done ours and now I'm roasting :p)

  • Member number 187 = new total 49.02%

Another update, possibly the last this year. It would not be my preferred way to get the money together, but I am paying £3318.15 off my credit card today. It's money from my grandmothers estate that Mum is sharing. She may drive me crazy sometimes, but she's a pretty great Mum.

So that's another 33.18% to declare, giving me a total percentage of 49.02%. :D

I don't expect the next 51% to be so quick to get together. I have one more PPI claim with MBNA in the works, hopefully that will bring something in before the new year.

    Now to update my sig...

    Hi

I'd like to join please. My debt total is £6000 so I will get started on paying back some 1%'s by Christmas eve. I have set money aside for Christmas nights out etc which I am going to save from, and I am away to read through all the excellent ideas on this thread to come up with some more savings.

  • I too would like to join for 2013.
My debt total is likely to be £13150, but I think I will split that down into Credit Card 1 £4500
    Credit Card 2 £2500
    Loan £6150.
So to start with my 1% would be £45.00 and I will snowball later in the year.
I have a PPI claim in at the moment which could change all this, so keeping my fingers crossed:)

    Savings goal £30,000 1% = £300.
