    50 hours! That's amazing!
  • We're all upto date again now with percents flying in at all angles! Love it!

Big hello to the latest folks that joined while I was on hol!
KKing, FatPuddingMumma, JennyPennySaver, Triangle & Rachel84 you're all on the list with your latest %'s.

Sorry to hear some expenses cropped up Tattycath, least you know you're still at 6%, it's just a step back - nothing more :)

I'm off to do a bit of ebaying, clearing clutter & sending out parcels helps me achieve a zen-like state of mind :rotfl:

We were going to have a treat and go out for tea tonight but instead I'm going to cook what we would have at the restaurant at home for a fraction of the cost!

Grand total of £12 for a 3 course meal for two, Chez Moi. Will put the extra we would have spent to one side.

Hope you all have a lovely evening!

Well although ive not achieved a lot today % wise i did fix the washing machine all by myself :) Relisted the 1 thing i didnt sell yesterday (was waiting until this evening to list so it ends in 3 days time on a Saturday).

I also sorted out my car insurance for next month. Went for the monthly option (i was planning on the annual cost but i need to get 2 rooms plastered before xmas). My original monthly cost was £89 a month fully comp for me and OH (we are both under 25) and just got it sorted for us both, fully comp with £0 vol excess and legal cover incl. for *drumroll* £46.15 a month. Saving over £40 a month there :T AAAAND i had a code for £75 cashback (they were offering quidco cashback at £45 but i have my home insurance with them so entitled to the higher cashback. I will get the cheque in 90 days (making a note in my diary for that! Right before Xmas i think that is :A

Both items on Ebay sold. £3.19 and £5.20, plus the postage. Happy with that :) These will be going towards my Ebay fees which ive got now :) They should be coming out soon.

Hmm...I would take the above advice with a pinch of salt.

My spam-sense is on high alert with the numbers too.

My point of view on this is

1)Twitter & FB aren't underused, they're overcrowded with people doing exactly this. Twitter is especially full of spam (fake accounts & spam tweets) it takes effort, content, credibility & marketing to get a worthwhile following.

2)10,000 genuine followers is very hard to reach & a lot of work. I've found if you've got an interesting account & you seem genuine, for every 10 people you follow around 5 follow you back. You'd have to add 100 followers every day for 7 months to get anywhere even close to 10k. That's very boring work. The closest I've got is 8600 followers on 1 account, I've built it slowly since Jan 2011.

If you enlist a paid service to add followers for you, they won't be targeted to your idea, they'll just add a high percentage of fake accounts.

My suggestions the numbers would be closer to this

10k followers -> 1% click on the link (100) -> 1% of them make a purchase (1) if you're lucky you'd probably make £1.50 per tweet and it doesn't scale, so it's not like you can just ramp up the tweets and get lots of £1.50's. Plus you've got to constantly come up with interesting content to put in your tweets.

In those 6 months adding followers you'd be better writing an ebook on a subject that you're knowledgable about and then selling that, once that's complete you can go down the Twitter route but instead of getting £1.50 per sale, you'd get the full price of your own product that you're selling.

I am a lurker on this thread, but I had to chime in because I totally agree with Little Miss. There are thousands (probably millions) of what I call "idiot" accounts on Twitter, who are so desparate to accrue followers that they'll follow every person they find. Case in point: I have over 300 followers on Twitter but I HAVE NEVER POSTED ANYTHING. I only opened my account so that I could read Mark Kermode's Oscar predictions a couple of years ago, when he ran out of time to give them live on the radio.

    Re: Ebay fees.

Are you aware you can pay your Ebay fees straight away, rather than wait for ebay to take them?

If you go into your ebay account & summary it will tell you what your current fees are and give the option of making a one off payment.

I always use this method and it stops money getting tied up in paypal while you wait for ebay to invoice it each month.

Hope thats of some use :)

Hi all, just thought I would post a quick update as its almost 2 weeks since I started the challenge.

Thanks for adding me to the list Little Miss - and a massive  for starting this fantastic thread!

I am currently at 9% - 1% has come from loose change over last week.

    I have also:
    • Posted books to fatbrain; expecting 2% from these
    • Got half a % from money saved out of weekly food shopping budget - hoping to make it up to a full 1% after next week's food shop!
    • Posted items on ebay - if all sell, will be another 2% (possibly more)
Aim for this coming week is to get more items on ebay - total starting price combined of £60 (3%). I think I need to start being much more ruthless with clothes :D

    Take care

Yes, I always pay my ebay fees when it gets up to a certain amount-in fact, I often round it up so I end up in credit of a couple of pounds. I hardly ever wait for the invoice to arrive. :)

  • Well still no progress here (will be the end of the month until I know if I can afford another 1% and I still haven't listed any more stuff on ebay/gumtree), but I have started writing an ebook..... I don't think I'll ever make any money (not the attitude, I know, but probably realistic :o) but if nothing else it will provide me with a useful resource. Not sure how long it will take me to finish but when it is finished I guess I'll be looking for advice here on the next steps!!

Keep it up you're all doing so well :T
